What to do with Lynx?

I open Lynx in a lesson and hope it will converse with me about the lesson, but it seems nearly impossible to have a meaningful exchange. It does not seem to know which words I have lingq’d. I was hoping it could go through the list and quiz me or something.

Where is the manual for Lynx?

Lynx in LingQ is a built‑in conversational AI you can use to chat about your lessons, get explanations, and practice writing or speaking in your target language.[1][2]

What Lynx AI does

  • Discusses content from lessons you have already read or listened to, so you can ask questions, practice conversation, or get grammar explanations.[3][1]

  • Lets you create new LingQs (saved vocabulary) directly from the chat and even turn the conversation into a new lesson you can study later.[1]

  • Comes in different modes (Standard for all, Plus and Tutor for higher tiers) that change how advanced the chat is and whether you get extra voice features.[2][4]

How to access Lynx on web

  • Log in to your LingQ account in a browser; Lynx is available on the current web version for users who have it enabled (now generally rolled out, originally via beta).[2][1]

  • Open a lesson you have studied, then look for a Lynx or AI chat icon on the lesson page; start a chat to ask about vocabulary, grammar, or to practice conversation related to that lesson.[5][1]

How to use Lynx on mobile

  • On iOS, update LingQ to the latest version; the Lynx option appears in the app once your account has access.[1][2]

  • On Android, Lynx appears as an AI chatbot with a text input field; you can type messages, and if your keyboard has a microphone button, you can dictate speech which is converted to text for Lynx.[6][4]

Typical workflows with Lynx

  • After finishing a lesson, ask Lynx to quiz you on vocabulary, explain tricky sentences, or create example sentences using new words.[3][1]

  • Start a free conversation in your target language and then save useful phrases as LingQs directly from the chat, or export the whole chat as a new lesson to reread and review later.[3][1]

If you don’t see Lynx

  • Make sure your LingQ app is updated and that your subscription level includes Lynx AI; some advanced modes (Plus, Tutor) require a Plus‑level subscription.[4][2]

  • If it still does not appear, check the LingQ forums or support page and confirm whether your account needs to be added to Lynx access or if the feature is still rolling out in your region or platform.[7][1]

If you tell which platform you are on (web, iOS, Android) and your subscription level, more step‑by‑step guidance can be tailored to your setup.

This (and only this) makes Lingq useful to me. I’m curious what I can do with it. @zoran there is a suggestion/ request in the picture.

It tried and failed to create a lesson for me without the English in the conversation. Can it do that?

It sometimes will use new words for you to lingq. I just use it to have basic conversations so far.

From the above Lynx sounds pretty horrible, or at least not what I’m looking for. Pretty much what I expect from a new LingQ “feature.”

Strange, because LingQ’s strength in Sentence View is to give you easy access to the language as a tool and otherwise stay out of the way. To make Comprehensible Input easier and more comprehensible.

I guess if you must have a programmed tutor to tutor you, Lynx is useful.

Otherwise, why not get a regular AI account and consult as necessary? That’s what I do.

BTW, the lynx is beautiful wild cat.

I would be curious to know what Steve Kaufmann thinks of Lynx.

From what I’ve read and watched, SK doesn’t like a program or a human tutor to test him or correct him.

Unfortunately every purveyor of software seems to think they need to get on the AI bandwagon whether it makes sense or not. Would be cool if the users of Lingq had the majority say for what the developer staff should work on next.

Yes. Linx is useless for me - fortunately, I have a lifetime acct. and not affected. Evernote just doubled my annual subscription fee for useless AI carp.

The shortcut “k” doesn’t work in Lynx. That’s a basic feature. Please fix it.

@zoran - in case you missed it

@vernmartin Thanks, I did missed it. We will have it fixed.

I used to love Evernote. I used it for maybe 15 years. Last year I exported over 5K notes from Evernote and switched to Apple Notes.

It’s not fixed. I’m clicking on a word. It says the word (good). When I press “k” is does not mark it as known.

I’m trying new things with Lynx.
When I created a lesson, why doesn’t it allow me to use sentence mode? It keeps many sentences together.

Lynx’s own answer is below.
Can it be formatted so the lesson can be seen in “sentence view”?

The sentences in your lesson did not separate in Sentence Mode likely because the text was not properly split or timestamped as individual sentences in the Lesson Editor— you need to manually adjust sentence breaks and audio timestamps to fit each sentence [1]. Also, Sentence Mode is a Premium feature, so if you have not upgraded, it might not work fully [2]. Checking and editing sentences in “Sentence View” and ensuring proper formatting can help [1].

I think it adds in the prompt too and won’t work for what I want to do.
