I believe many here might know the Language Reactor extension, which allows you to watch videos on YouTube/Netflix with double subtitles (original and translation), as well as romanizations/pinyin (for languages that don’t use the Latin alphabet). It also allows you to save words to a list.
I was hoping that LingQ could implement such a feature, or, at the bare minimum, fix the video visibility on the LingQ website itself.
I would love if I could just leisurely watch some YouTube videos in my target language and every now and then save a couple of words to LingQ without having to import it to LingQ as a whole lesson.
Let’s all agree that the way LingQ is right now, it is not a pleasurable experience to watch videos on it because the video gets too small, and you have to swipe pages all the time.
If it did work somewhat like Language Reactor or Language Player, it would be amazing.

Another user @vet8t6z79pc4 seems to have put a large amount of time and effort into improving the YouTube player experience on the LingQ website. His solution is free but is asking for a donation if possible.
Regarding the adding of single words/phrases without importing a lesson it is very doable. A dummy lesson would be setup and then additional words / phrases can be added on demand.
It is also unlikely to get a response from LingQ devs here without directly tagging them or posting in the support forum.
Much obliged for your reply. I tried it out, but honestly speaking the interface is a bit dauting even for somebody used to using computers, extensions, different softwares, etc. I guess you get what I mean. The interface is yet not that user-friendly.
From what I understood then, the only way to create “lingq” words using the Rooster extension is by having a master subscription + a lingq subscription? Even without creating a lesson? Or am I missing something? Is it possible to lingq words without having a master subscription? Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback. The RVT V2 Extension, LanguageMaster Website and LanguageMaster Lesson System are developed and functional but still in Alpha/Beta stages. We hope to have complete products by the end of the year.
That’s right. To use LingQ related services you need a Premium account on LingQ and Gold/Lifetime account on LanguageMaster.

If I could suggest trying an overlay similar to what language reactor/player does. The default way it is set right now takes too much of the screen. I don’t know if there was an option to remove the black background and it seems I could not find the pinyin/romanji option for chinese/japanese as well.
I’ve heard this before, I wasn’t sure if its because people are just used to it or because its actually good. Could be worth spending some time on it to see what works well.
I think you will find exceptional value glancing the vt-section of the getting started guide. I do agree these menus are not user friendly and take some time to get used to.

Knowing that your extension allow to create lingqs from Youtube subtitles without the need of importing the video as a lesson and do it directly from youtube, do you know about about any extension that allows to do the same on any text on any website without the need of importing the content into LingQ as a lesson?
It would be great for me to use LingQ on whatever website I’m on without having to import it as a lesson.
I made this a couple years ago but never had the time to finish it. Basically you make a dummy lesson with the tool and then you can append random text you find on the internet into it by highlighting and pressing the hotkey. When you do that you get a popup with some LingQ data.
I don’t think it’s very good and don’t recommend it. Might get to back it eventually…
