Unable to download videos using the LingQ import extension

Hi,

I just subscribed to the LingQ a week ago but suddenly I am no longer able to import videos using the LingQ extension (Google Chrome). Is there an issue?

Thanks.

What happens when you try to import? Can you please provide more information?

Whenever I try to import a video into LingQ from Youtube I get a message saying “Error: file: The submitted file is empty”. This issue started today (or sometime yesterday). I didn’t have any problems importing videos before. I use Chrome, but I also tried Edge with no luck (I received the same error message in Edge). Hopefully this can be fixed soon?. Thanks.

I am also having problems. I first to the edit about an empty file. Now mine says there are no captions, But I can see the captions. Heres the link:

We will do our best to have this fixed as soon as possible.

This is exactly the same issue I am having and I am checking here, the forum, to see if there is any update that says that the issue has been fixed. This is the main functionality of LingQ after all.

I’m here with the same problem. I hope Lingq fix this problem. I really like to study in Lingq with youtube videos.

This issue has been around for about a month or more but you could work around it by making another YouTube account (which is pretty easy). The work around stopped working however. Migaku is another language learning app that uses YouTube and they have the same problem. It seems as long as there was a work around they didn’t consider it critical because they didn’t fix it. Until there wasn’t a work around and now they say they fixed it and once the update is approved by the Chrome Extension approval team it will be fixed. I’m guessing LingQ will prioritize it now that they have to also.

I mean this is a very serious issue… it is what makes the app LingQ… I am eagerly waiting for the solution

you can still import anything in mobile devices. This problem is only in web browser extention.

I only use the web browser version. I almost never use the mobile app myself.

I just tried importing a YouTube video several times using my iPhone. No luck (“Import failed. Please check your Internet connection or try again later”). Previous to these attempts I had never tried importing on my mobile device, so I’m not sure if I’m doing it correctly. Can someone else confirm if they can still import a video using an iPhone?

I have the same problem on my older iPad with older iOS, I think it uses iOS 17 something. I don’t have that problem with my larger, newer iPad, iOS 18.5.

Thanks. I updated to IOS 18.5 (latest version). And it is still not working for me (I still get the same Import failed message) on my iPhone 15. I’m a very new LingQ user, so I may not be using the mobile version correctly, but so far mobile isn’t a solution for me. I have successfully imported video content using the web extension until a few days ago. Hope to hear soon from LingQ support regarding a fix for the web browser version.

Make sure you have the latest versions of the iOS LingQ app and YouTube.

LeifGoodwin: Thanks so much for your help! I updated the LingQ app for IOS and it’s working on my iPhone. I prefer using LingQ on my PC but at least I can now import video content with my phone and access it on my PC.

The issue should be fixed on the iOS app and Firefox extension, make sure to have the latest versions. We will soon release an update for the Chrome extension too.

Tried Firefox but no luck. Same message as in Chrome and Edge (Error: file: the submitted file is empty). Firefox is up to date and I downloaded the extension from Firefox addons just now.
