The ability to use lingq with local videos/TV shows

As a person with tons of local videos it would be nice if there was a way to record my stats and use lingq with my own subtitles on local videos from my pc not just YouTube or netflix using the new format of the new video player all on one screen. As of right now i just split screen my videos and import the text from the sub files and follow along on lingq as i watch which works but its a bit inconvenient and i miss out on the listening time unless i go out of my way to rip the audio and import that as well. I Then have to sync the audio and the video to accurately track my stats which is all just a hassle.

I understand that maybe one of the reasons that this hasn’t been implemented yet is maybe because of storage/ copyright concerns but instead of creating a whole lesson there could just be a browser window that will allow you to import your local video, subs, and record stats using lingq and there would never actually be any creating of a lesson or storing files, just recording of your lingq stats somehow.

When I started using LingQ with Spanish, sometimes, when I wanted to import a video from a newspaper page, for example, I downloaded said video and then uploaded it on my YouTube channel as a non-listed video. Afterwards I imported that video into LingQ.

It’s definetely a bit of a cumbersome approach compared to how it would be if one could just import the videos directly, but at least it works.

I am not sure whether possible copyright issues are the culprit here, though, as you have this with everything imported. Even a YouTube video could contain copyright infringments.

I assume that if you import a video from YouTube, Netflix and so one the actual video file doesn’t get uploaded, as there is no need for it. It probably just refers to the respective site. If you could upload your own videos, the company behind LingQ would actually have to provide storage space for all those videos. Considering how huge video files can be, especially if made with needless high resolutions and bad compression, that would get soon very expensive, I guess. (There are YouTube videos that feature rain sounds for ambient with an only slightly animated still image which are several GB in size sometimes).

Yeah this could be sort of a workaround but if you tried to upload something like a movie or anime then there is a good chance your video will be taken down eventually or just straight up blocked from playback if the automatic system catches it.

What im proposing requires no upload to lingq because its just a browser that will use the lingq functionality so that no file is being uploaded. The only other workaround is that if lingq lets us create lessons as normal but instead of the custom local video lesson being saved on lingq it would rely solely on your pc storage so the whole lesson would only be accessible on your pc kind of like on spotify having the option to import your audio from your pc into your library but it only works as long as your pc is connected to the internet and the files are still on your pc that acts like a hosting server.

Considering the amount of different operating systems and versions of those used, the different interfaces (different browsers, the app, etc…) as well as all kind of security apps in between (Microsofts own user account control, the OS firewall, other firewall programs etc…) I would assume that this is a task that a company would designate to the least liked employee. My prayers are with that poor guy (or guyess or whatever the female version is :stuck_out_tongue: ).
