State of the Union

@Paul - Ozzy was complaining about being censured before anyone mentioned deleting posts. Ozzy is going to somehow feel victimized regardless of what happens. So the real question is whether or not posts like that should be allowed at all. Considering that calling for the death of someone (such as the now deleted comment about the home school teacher) is something that could and possibly should be reported to law enforcement, I’m pretty sure that posts like that shouldn’t be allowed.

I didn’t censor anyone’s views. I deleted a post that called for killing people.

“Ozzy was complaining about being censured before anyone mentioned deleting posts. Ozzy is going to somehow feel victimized regardless of what happens.”

People seem to preemptively react to what they expect and expecting to be censored for the things he said is quite logical.
I´m just speculating though.

@Steve

I think we all agree that this is an good solution :slight_smile:

@Ozzy

Have you ever considered apologizing to CGreen?

@Paule

I’ll only apologize, if green apologizes about saying" Stop feeding the troll" bit. But the other apologize I can make is for saying" I hate you!" on his wall as a private message.

@green

No one forced me to click delete on the comments I’ve made. Well other than you when you started calling me a troll at the beginning.

We tolerate all kinds of views and personalities here. We should avoid the word “hate” and any invitations to violence.

Nebulae, the sacrifice of Soviet citizens during the war is hard for us to imagine. No doubt that Hitler invading the Soviet Union saved Britain and the West. As a percent of the population military and civilian casualties in the USSR reached a level that only a few other countries matched, Poland, and some of the Pacific Islands being among them.

It is interesting to speculate what would have happened if Stalin had chosen not to execute half his officer corps in 1937-8, and not to join Germany in invading Poland in 1939. Or if the West had stood up to Hitler in 1938, with the help of Czechoslovakia. But then well over 30% of the Czech army of the time consisted of German speakers who wanted to be part of Germany.

So what would have happened if the German speaking part of the old Austro-Hungarian Empire at the end of WW1 had been allowed to join Germany as they wanted, based on some population exchange scheme.

Or if the Allied Powers had not demanded such high reparations from the Germans at Versailles, or if the Prussians had not exacted such a high level of reparations from France, including taking Alsace-Lorraine, after the Franco-Prussian war. And on and on.

History is fascinating.

Interesting that Stalin, who is largely responsible for his country not being able to put up better resistance to Hitler in June of 1941, and who has the blood of millions on his hands for the close to a million executions during the great terror, and many more millions in the gulags, and the deaths during the dekulakization of the 1930s, is still considered a hero by at least half the population of Russia.

I might be old-fashioned, too sensitive or whatever, but I’ve always thought that calling for the killing of people and threatening to physically harm them was a criminal offence and not just “an opinion”.

The posts were disgusting to say the least and I was disappointed to see that the posters were given so much “freedom”. I remember that in a much older thread Steve had asked one of the members to refrain from using the expression “he looks like shit” because he wanted to keep the forum free from obscenities.

With all due respect, what was not obscene about every single post of these two people? I’d rather have them use four-letter words instead of having them threaten people.

I’ve noticed that one of the most offensive posts was deleted by Steve and I think that was the right decision. Everybody handles these issues differently but just as I would never allow such people to even set foot into my house (I don’t care if they then gather somewhere else or supposedly become even more isolated - there are other means to deal with such people then; they are only courageous and “tough” as long as they are given enough leeway to play out their sick fantasies) I’d never tolerate such comments on anything my name is associated with.

But I do understand that the concept of “freedom of speech” is seen differently by different people. I’ll leave it at that.

" I don’t have the U.S. Constitution’s FREEDOM of speech on the web or even out in public"
No… no you don’t. Perhaps you should go re-read that document.

Damn, neo-nazis, killing people, hate messages… it’s a good thing crazyhorse’s mom isn’t on this thread

@Robert

I agree. I favour freedom of speech, but direct incitement to murder is something else entirely! When I saw posts saying things like “Obama should be assassinated” and “we should kill all gypsies and foreigners” I was very surprised that they weren’t immediately deleted. (Especially seeing that MADARA was made to delete posts which did NOT actually contain any physical threats or incitement…)

I would have deleted the offending post as soon as I saw it if I had remembered that I could. I thought the choice was still the old system of either the commenter editing the post or me deleting the account.

And I don’t spend my day reading all of these threads.
