Premium Plus for lifetime subscribers

I have a lifetime subscription for two languages. I understand the business rationale for offering a premium plus tier given the cost of integrating AI functionality. I purchased my lifetime subscriptions in 2021 after a number of years of annual subscriptions.

Is there a way to upgrade my lifetime plans via a one-time payment for the upgrade, or paying the monthly difference? I’m not 100% sold but the AI voices and enhanced Lynx chat seem appealing - so on a related note I’d like to ask if it’s possible to do a short trial of the premium plus.

Right now it seems I don’t even have the option to upgrade, but I am at least interested.

Maybe you should consider reading this if you haven’t already: Premium+: how is it better?

Great points. I haven’t been following these developments. I’m hesitant to pay more (for anything) without knowing why and without having a trial of some sort. I pay for Google AI (Notebook LM and Gemini), which is a great language learning resource for advanced learners like me. I also break even on my lifetime subscriptions late this year. I’m hesitant to pay more for LingQ without a clear idea of what I’d be gaining.

@devinbrazier At the moment it’s not possible to upgrade the Lifetime plan to Lifetime Plus. You can only purchase Plus plan separately. We’ll see if there is a better way to handle this for Lifetime subscribers.

Its sad that there isnt a alternative for lifetime members.
i would pay another 100€ to “upgrade” my lifetime membership for the plus features. but i will not pay the full subscription additionally for a couple of features.

@dizzynerd We do have in plans to introduce an option for Lifetime subscribers to get a Plus plan. You won’t be paying full Plus plan price of course, only an additional monthly fee for AI features.

Yeah, and then next year you are going to have a Plus Plus, then a Premium Premium, then a Premium Plus. It’s not a Lifetime! Considering that’s only for 1 language, it’s already limited in the potential use of resources. I use way less resources right now than when I was doing 4 languages! You should have grandfathered the previous ones and started with the new ones.

Because now, instead of a Lifetime (All Inclusive), like it was before, you are making a Lifetime Basic, and a Lifetime Plus. You should grandfather the previous ones, and start selling different Lifetimes for different Tiers. Imho.
Good luck!

I have to disagree with you here. I have exactly the same benefits (plus some improvements) now that I had when I purchased “Lifetime” access. How can you expect them to add a service that costs them money,

It’s not a matter of opinions. It’s a matter of policies and behavior. According to your thinking, you mean that Lifetime members that bought a Lifetime 2 years ago shouldn’t have any AI because there wasn’t any before, right? Or 3 years ago? Fortunately, you are not the one making those decisions. It’s not an obligation for a company to have Lifetime subscriptions.

These were the policies before, if they changed things should be for the new ones, and things should be clear! And by the way, it’s also a legal matter!

You might notice “Unlimited Access”. You gain unlimited access to ALL FEATURES.

If, as a company, you want to change things, you shouldn’t change them for the previous ones. I don’t think the vast majority of users are lifetime users anyway. It shouldn’t be a big deal. As I said before, if it’s really a problem of resources and costs for some lifetime member that abuse the system, we could talk about it, but I don’t think that’s the case. Imho.

You might notice in this answer from Zoran a few years ago.

“…you won’t have any limitations in that language for as long as you are LingQ member”.

I stand by my way of seeing things. But it is what it is!

This is also what I understood when I bought the lifetime membership. It was a big investment for me at the time, but that is what I saw it as, an investment. Especially considering that I would only have access to that one language. Buying into something that was not perfect, but that I was confident would evolve and improve over time.

Incorrect. You no longer have access to the Simplify Lesson feature and your access to the transcription feature has been limited.

It wasn’t there when I signed up and frankly, I’ve never used it.
