LingQ5 for web launched 2!

Thanks for reaching out. Will send it through!

I am still not sure that you saw what we are saying here Mark.

About the basic difference between satisfied and dissatisfied people.

Please, at least say what you think about it, or i’ll be tempted to keep repeating it until you are so irritated that you will want to kill me. lol

I am not a coder, but I can quite easily make out that the code basically just works with grid coordinates (A Complete Guide to CSS Grid | CSS-Tricks - CSS-Tricks). So, they are not going to remote control my PC with that kind of code.

To be honest Mark has acknowledged you and your concerns many times over the past 5 days. How about you start a thread with your concern and see how many people agree with it (like it). Then you have more weight and it does not come across as you spamming the forum. If however you realise, only a tiny minority shares your particular concerns, then maybe you could accept it or modify your learning approach. It is virtually impossible, to make everyone happy. Several people complained that the bright colours, the apple and the avatars are gone, many others have complained about the “silly” user interface for years…

There is actually an easy work-around: on the yellow word you press the “x” key once, then the yellow highlight disappears. Then you press “x” again on the same word (which now only has a frame) and voila, you basically turn that word into an unknown word again (even though it is not blue, you get your dictionary options).

No, more likely that the active minority would post their appreciation much more often because they are likely the same people who have more time for both posting/liking on the forum and for getting used to any silly flaws and don’t care if this all will end at some point when new users would be scared away by the interface, while the old community would be not enough to make the team keep this project alive.

How about you go mind your buisness and let customers question who and what they want to if you’re satisfied anyway (there is the checkbox ‘Watch Thread’ at the top of the page). It’s easy to be loyal. We were explained a year ago in the other post, that bugs of 4.0 are not getting fixed because they’re working on new bugs 5.0.

I also have the feeling, that all the constructive criticizm was in vein, and all we get in return is “you’ll get used to extra clicks and scrolls”.

First of all, congratulations mark and the whole LingQ team for such an incredible update. Mark during the development of the update you talked about creating one endpoint showing the Languages in “Alpha”, showing what is still needed to change these languages to “Beta”. I hope you still remember that and that is still on the plan, it would empower so much the community and it would help them to help us LingQ Librarians.

@S.I., this is not correct. As you know everywhere critics are more vocal than people, who are satisfied. There are many other interesting voices in this thread and it is not the case that I am perfectly happy with V 5.0. Myself and others have tried to understand that poster’s concerns and find solutions and Mark said he would try to work on making this possible in the future. I do not want to unsubscribe to a thread just because one user spams the thread with the same messages for 5 days without end. You perfectly know what would happen on a normal forum to such posters…

Its not about me being acknowledge, but i see you won’t believe it.

Its about him showing that he understood what i am talking about, and not just giving a general answer to try to make me feel acknowledged.

look what he wrote:

“I don’t understand. Just click on the empty meaning field at the top of the sidebar widget and type in your meaning. Or, select one of the available meanings, click on it and edit it.”

When he said this, he already had acknowledged me. But this acknowledgement didn’t mean anything , because he was not understanding the complaints.

Hello. I have two notifications showing but when I click to view, a small window opens, it says ‘loading’, but there is nothing displayed.

@Dreaming butterfly:

Go the post by “ericb100”
starting with “Uploading some screenshots to see what I mean.”

Is this post not about what you are saying?

Also I posted a work-around “There is actually an easy work-around: on the yellow word you press the “x” key once, then the yellow highlight disappears. Then you press “x” again on the same word (which now only has a frame) and voila, you basically turn that word into an unknown word again (even though it is not blue, you get your dictionary options).”

i am answering here because there were no option there.

Yes, ericb100 , understand perfectly what i am talking about. And i am happy he took the time to explain it in detail.

And the solution you offered about pressing x just shows you still dont understand the complaint, because it doesn’t solve the problem. I would still need more work to have the same result.

With this last comments i think i did enough noise.

If the linqg team is still not understanding or does not want to understand i can do nothing about it.

i’ll go back to my reading.

That is also my problem, but I will not complain anymore, I will use another app.

Is it possible your internet connection is a little slow? It will say loading until the notifications load, which may take a few seconds.

North

Just spent an hour putzin’ around with 5.0 instead of learning Spanish!
So far, I hate it.

Hello, I really like the new lay out and new LingQ counting system. There are 2 things not working correctly for me:

  • The counting of time listened (after 1 minute of listening suddenly it added around 7 minutes of listening time)
  • More importantly after a while (30 sec or more) I cannot use arrow left or right to go to the next blue/yellow word which obviously is a bit annoying.

The counting of minutes and also words read works fine on my IOS device btw.

Can this be checked? Thx so much in advance!

Regards,

Jurjen
PS I use Brave browser, so exact copy of Chrome

Hi Jan. Good for a workaround in the meantime I suppose, but I do think providing the option to quickly get at the dictionaries, or providing the “blue word” view as the optional default view is a better long term solution.

Also, this is a similar issue on the app as well.

I do like the less cluttered look of the current default, particularly on the app, but it really does make it cumbersome to look up words in the dictionary for yellow and “known lingq’ed” words.

I personally could live with it as it is (I have throughout the beta), but I think it would make it better for those that really do like to look a lot of things up. That seems to be much of the complaints…“too many clicks to do this or that”.

I am getting the same thing with Swedish courses. Can scroll back, but not forward. The different page and sentence views are a little messed up as well, not putting the words in the center of the page, but on the side instead.
