In general, Firefox performance is significantly worse than on other browsers. We are working on this but recommend using another browser in the meantime.
When you edit the lesson you should see all translations that are available. Click on a sentence to see this.
The translation shown is in the default dictionary language. You would have to change the default (top) dictionary language to see a different language here.
Would it be possible to have a blue theme? The white one is too light and the dark one too… dark.
Also, would it be possible to have different colours for the text and the LingQ box or whatever it’s called? It could be nice to be able to customise all this.
Hi Mark. Congratulation on the new version. There are many good improvements. I make some suggestions earlier, one year ago. Please keep this in your attention.
" I use very often Sentence Mode. I like to use it to understand well each sentence first. It is very useful to me. I still have some suggestions for the next update.
- I will want to have other colors for the text in Translate Sentence or to be o highlighted text. This will be more useful to focus your sight on translating text.
- Another suggestion is to have a writing box, to exercise the writing after I listen to in Sentence Mode.
- A slow sound in Sentence Mode.
- A looped sound in Sentence Mode, too."
Thank you.
This is helpful and the rational makes sense even if it is a change. Thank you.
Is there a way to review status 4 words at the end of a lesson? I seem to remember being able to toggle a “mark 4 as known” switch in the old version but can’t find one now. Thanks in advance.
I agree completely, the only thing I need is to read, check the meaning of the word, and sometimes the translation of the sentence in a fast way. All these known and unknown words are BS. In this new version, it is much more difficult, to keep concentrated on my reading, sometimes it shows the meaning of the word in one place and sometimes in another place.
I decided to pay for lingq two years ago because it was effective to learn on that app. Today we have a different app here.
Hi everyone,
if some of you are still experiencing the stuck issue, when trying to switch pages, can you please take a screenshot of error console of your browser and send it to support(at)lingq.com? It will help us figure it out. Thanks in advance!
I wonder why there is so much dead/unused white space. It does not seem to be due to low-resolution screens. See pics here:
Where has the My Lessons link gone? You have fixed it and it wasn’t broken. It’s far too spread out and small, You’ve spoilt something I very much loved the way it was. I’m not sat studying I’m sat wasting time trying to find out how it all works.
It’s far too white and the boxes all become one big white mess. Why did you do this? I genuinely think I’m going to have to find something else. I loved this as it was. I recommended it to many. It was clear and easy to use and navigate. Now it’s broken.
I hate hover pop up things they’re unnecessary.
This is awful!
This is just frustrating and visually a nightmare.
Time to cancel my subscription I think.
18 months I’ve wasted building a database here.
LingQ. Learning languages simply. mmm! Not anymore.
Please let us have a resort back option. please.
Hey all, I thought I would add my 2 cents to this very active thread.
Overall I appreciate the effort on improving the interface. The UI was my biggest complaint when I first joined Lingq. It will take some getting used to but I was able to find everything for the most part. There are lots of little hidden gems everywhere that can be hard to find but the overall look is cleaner and simpler. The changes did come without warning though and were a bit of a shock. A few issues I’ve noticed:
-
The option to stay on a previous software version is very common. l have seen that myself many times with systems (both paid and unpaid) that I use regularly. Users should have the option to test drive a new interface before fully committing to it.
-
There used to be an option to view the entire text of a lesson in the sidebar on the right.
-
A couple of my settings did not carry over to the new version. I had both “Paging moves to known” and “Auto lingq creation” unchecked, but they were switched back to checked in the new UI. I’m glad I went back in and unchecked them before I launched into a new lesson.
-
The dark interface is nice but the yellow lingqs and new blue words are harder for me to see in dark mode.
-
My biggest gripe so far is that the daily goals have been changed from lingqs to coins. It would be nice to have the option to choose between a set number of coins, lingqs or even both as daily targets. Newer learners might want to focus on creating lots of lingqs while more advanced learners might be more interested in generating a set number of coins as a daily target.
-
Which by the way, what happened to the avatar? My goal is to learn languages and not spend my time messing with an avatar but that could be a fun diversion. But without the avatar, the coins don’t seem to serve much value. What are they for anyway?
Overall I’m loving the updates! Thanks for all the hard work!
The most annoying thing for me is when i turn the page while listening to an audio and then the voice just busts out the first word highlighted in blue. Completely distracting and unecessary. Pls fix. Apart from not fixing that out the I really like thte new design
I did that for hours. What works sometimes is by pressing the pages at the top bar, sometimes it doesn’t work though. Also, I cannot find my lessons on my android phone anymore. Only the recent ones on the home page. I also imported a new lesson on 5.0 Web app, when I open that lesson through the “recent lessons” at the home page of the android app, it’s just empty. Nothing at all. No words, no sentences. None.
Here are the screenshots
I had the same on the android app. I reinstalled it, but instead of loading a lesson, it shows a blank page
Have you tried the dark mode? That might solve some of your issues.
One I have noticed is when I work a phrase of 2 or more words known stops my keyboard short cuts from working until a refresh
That’s annoying for me too, but you can disable it. Go to:
Settings → App settings → Reader and uncheck the box labeled “Auto play text-to-speech”
In sentence mode and in page view, I cannot move forward through the lesson. Very disappointing “upgrade”
We would like to have the new languages added by the end of March.
We appreciate everyone’s patience as we sort out some of the issues reported. We should have an update pushed within the next 12 hours addressing the following identified issues:
Paging control to go to the next page or sentence
Reduced sidebar space for the widget on low resolution screens
Course/lessons remaining in Continue Studying after removal
We have improved performance on Firefox somewhat already. Still a lot of room for improvement. We will continue working on it but we do recommend another browser for now.
