We have just launched LingQ 5.0 on the web. This is the last platform to be upgraded which means LingQ 5 is now available on iOS, Android and now Web.
We’re very excited to finally get this update into everyone’s hands! And, look forward to your feedback and the continued optimizations we will be making moving forward.
For more information on the changes, you can find a blog post here Introducing LingQ 5.0 - LingQ Blog.
Overall, we wanted to refresh our look, try and simplify the interface and make it easier to find the great content you’re looking for.
As always, let us know what you think!
in case the other thread gets neglected and my question doesnt get answered ill just ask here again, so dont thing im being rude.
I get its still early but i was under the impression the new languages would come out as soon as it updated, is this not the case? or are we going to see them in like an hour?
Hello, hello. Is there a way to revert to V4?
New languages are coming but not right away. We will get to them soon but you will have to wait a little longer. They are not part of the update.
No, I’m afraid not.
Obviously, this is super new and there will be ongoing improvements, however, the reader is very glitchy right now. I can flip the page 60% of the time. I miss the ol’ Windows 96 style, haha.
Are you 100% sure there is no way to get to V4? I am so used to the old LingQ because of highlighting colors. They were more visible to your naked eyes.
I like the new version a lot! Less clutter, more focus. Lovely
Thumbs up to all developers and beta-testers behind this.
Is there a reason why not Mark? Most apps have a toggle switch whereby you can revert back to a previous version.
I’ve only just got used to v4 since I joined in Dec '21, and now I’ve got to get used to this new version?
Are there any training videos we can watch to make the transfer less ‘painless’ please if we’re unable to revert back to v4?
I don’t want to be rude, but I think it’s downright dreadful, it runs like molasses on my browser, the padding between the elements on the sidebar is so excessive that I can’t even browse more than 1 suggested definition (whereas before I could read at least three at a glance); shrinking the sidebar didn’t help with usability either, really; it just made the interface more infuriating for people that might have a busted scroll-wheel or have one of those trackball mice without one.
I hope that I didn’t come out as rude or insensitive, I just think its a serious downgrade from the previous version, which, yeah, was intimidating at first sight; but a dream to operate once you got some practice in.
I found that too so I switched to the dark mode and I never went back. I like it much more. Maybe worth a try.
It ran like molasses on my browser too when I first used it. Do you use Firefox? It is much better on Chrome. Switching to Chrome fixed it for me.
I appreciate the advice, thanks! I guess I’ll have to use the mobile version for a while until they fix it or roll it back to v4.
They were kind last time there was an update, and we could access even the previous, previous version until yesterday. This time, no mercy. We could have done with a bit of notice at the very least, that the functionality and accessibilty of content was going to change this drastically.
I´ll have to use this version for a bit until I feel I can have much of an opinion on which I liked better, but so far this one seems to work fine for me on the PC.
Hi, so the biggest problem I’ve found is that before, hitting the right arrow moved you to the next LingQ. Now, when I’m in a lesson and hit the right arrow it just goes to the next word, even if it’s no longer highlighted. Is this actually intended? Or is there a setting to change for this? I just want to be able to read at a good speed and just hit the arrow to keep moving along, I don’t want to have to move the mouse and click on each word.
In the first lesson I tried to read in v5, I cleared all the blue words on page 1, but then when I advanced to page 2 the segment for page 1 in the status bar didn’t turn green. This makes it seem like I haven’t finished reading page 1, or that there are remaining blue words. But, I checked page 1 again and there are no blue words left. Imgur: The magic of the Internet
Hi, I can’t seem to find the Full Text option in the new update. It was nice to scan the whole text before saving words. Has it been removed?
I have never once found an app/website that allows you to use previous major releases of a product.
@squidlamb Yes, but you can now see and read the full text in the listening/karaoke mode, under the audio player.
