Could you please restore the total number of (unique) words in a lesson? I use the ratio of known words to total words as a measure of my progress. Since Friday I have been recording the number of new words and the number of links when I start a new lesson. With the total number I can reconstruct the original number of known words, even though it has increased in the meantime as I work on the lesson. Thanks.
Looking a bit more into the long term, maybe a good solution would be to have a few different designs of the reading page that can be selected in the menu. They could be called ‘skins’ or ‘themes’ or something like that. One could be the ‘Default’, where the lesson page could look like it does now. Another could be ‘Reading mode’ or something like that where it’s a lot simpler (i.e. no background and power up bars, bigger text box…). Another could be ‘Fun mode’ where it is designed more for kids.
Since I am writting about suggestions, another problem I have with using LingQ is that it is difficult to know which lessons I have recently studied. When I go to the main Learn page, all I see is a list of the most recently opened courses. A great addition to that list would be a list that contains just the 10 or 20 most recently opened lessons. This could sit at the top of the list of courses and look itself like a course. Anyway, this is just an idea.
By the way, I have been using the reading interace recently on a computer that doesn’t have the Greasemonkey script installed since my computer died. When reading Russian stuff, where I can only get through a limited number of smaller texts and concentrate very much on the words and the lessons, I don’t find the stuff I complained about in this thread before to be so annoying. It is only when I read long texts in German, where I understand everything I read with ease and I am mostly just reading to enjoy what I am reading, that I find the power up bars and the background images distracting and annoying.
I really like Colin’s suggestions.
Great suggestions Colin.
It’s possible to see 3 recently used lessons in the Tasks menu. More recent lessons can be listed using Learn>My Lessons menu.
But I would like to have at least 5 lessons in the Tasks menu.
Ress, you are right. That will be useful. I still think my idea for the course would be a good one. The most recent 20 lessons really prominantly placed would be really useful.
I like Colin’s ‘themes’-suggestion very much. Up to now I have only watched Lingq evolve. I learn languages by reading texts and watching YouTube videos. The tools that I use are Wiktionary and forvo.com. Both are easy to use thanks to the plain user interface.
Lingq has very many features and I am overwhelmed by its user interface. Also it’s not easy to see whether a function is helping me learn languages or whether it’s just supposed to be fun.
I could do very well without fun of any kind. I don’t want any avatar, I don’t want any roses, I don’t want any apples (or are they tomatoes?). I want no pictures and no colours.
So please give me a button like Colin suggested. Call it ‘Reading mode’ or ‘Office’ or ‘Grim and grey’.
When I click the ‘Grim and grey’-button all fun will vanish and reason will emerge.
That’s what I want.
Thanks for the continued suggestions everyone. We have more significant changes being planned right now and will definitely be considering these suggestions. In fact, we are already planning changes which address a lot of these issues. Regarding the lesson statistics and details, we hope to add something fairly soon.
I just want to open a lesson! I am using an iPad and am unable to access anything from the ‘learn’ button. Nothing happens when I click on it.
The trick is two quick double clicks. It worked for me when I had this problem a while ago.
@Gingko Have you tried refreshing the page a few times? That was a problem but it has been fixed days ago. Have you updated your iPad to the most recent OS?
I noticed that now the number of Lings in a lesson is shown in Hover mode, ready for review. Good job!
Yes, we pushed some updates today. Displaying the LingQs number in all modes including Hover Mode beside the progress bar.Just click the number to review. Also, we pushed a bunch of refinements to the player that many of you have been asking for. Press Play to see the updates. The progress bar stays open as do the rewind and speed buttons. Click the small x to return to the minimized player with the download button.
I click on the number of Lingqs but it opens me the settings of the lesson mode. it doesnt let me review the lingqs from a lesson.
And do you know when the button of play videos is gonna be on the left menu? im waiting for it in every update, i hope it can be possible to do.
Wonderful that the progress bar and the rewind button stay open during audio play, thanks so much. You have been most responsive to our needs, and language learners, and through the discussions, I am finding about and using features that I was not aware of before.
Don’t worry Josu88 we haven’t forgotten
it’s a feature we’re working on.
Why should we find the Play button all the time and catch it?
I mean I don’t like the new position somewhere bottom left. And I don’t like I need to wait until it jumps a bit to the left.
I would prefer the Play button at the top left position as it was before. Let the LingQs yellow counter and the settings menu will be on the right side of the “progress bar” and the Play button on the left side.
Or, at least, let the Play button will not jump.
Hello.
I didn`t find the answer, so here is the question:
how can I see statistics of the lesson? It was so convenient before updates.
I mean f.e. procent of unknown words, total words` count etc.
Five-second rewind on iPad doesn’t appear when I press the play button.
