@zoran shared just two days ago Steve’s newest video with Luca Lampariello. This and Luca’s version (below) of the same chat - where @steve emphasized the role of listening - made me publish this wish I’ve had for a while.
In Luca’s video Steve spoke about significance of listening and curiosity. Straight quote from Steve: “If you devote half of hour day to listening, you’re probably going to trigger your curiosity to the point where you will then read what it was you were listening to.”
Those Steve’s words hit to this point: when I use LingQ for listening I’m doing other things or sitting on the train etc. Sometimes after starting the playlist I may hear quite familiar sentence or phrase or combined words but not fully understand them. Then I’d like to pause and ensure the meaning of that sentence or phrase, before I continue. But when clicking the Karaoke Mode (Synchronized Text) it only moves the playback but you can’t open the sentence view and watch the meaning you’ve saved.
So, the Team LingQ, would it be possible to add some button (i.e. to the right side of Karaoke Mode sentence) wherefrom you could open the Sentence Mode for this exact sentence (example behaviour below)?
I’ve been craving this so much… are there anyone else who’s been thinking the same? Do anyone else see this idea could be reasonable to add to the Feature Requests -list that anyone could vote for it?
PS. Found this old topic afterwards (but didn’t find the idea to be voted from Feature Requests list):
Steve’s thoughts about listening and curiosity in Luca’s video:
I went through the Feature Requests and noticed that this desired feature has been around for a longer time. There were four requests in total for the same idea in different queues. I chose the most voted one, so if you feel like this is the feature you need, vote it here Have text & audio match / auto sync
But at the same time, a question for you @zoran or @mark , have you had any discussions at LingQ about adding this kind of feature to some platform (my wish Android)?
I put here the other Feature Requests (votes in total when writing this 18,10,4,2 = 34) which are considering the same problem. So, if you some day have extra time to ponder the next feature to be implemented , please take them into consideration:
And finally this feature suggestion (from Support & Feedback forum) which can’t straight found from the Feature Requests:
We are looking into whether we might be able to switch to something like this. It is a departure from what is done currently so we have a few key bits of functionality that have to be considered. Thanks for pointing out the various requests. We were actually discussing it for another reason recently and this adds more grist to the mill.
With regard to the last comment, in the iOS app, you can actually tap and hold on words in Karaoke mode to go to that word in the reader.
Nice, thank you for your answer and that iOS tip! I tried it on my iPad and yes, it pretty much has the desired functionality. Only going back from Sentence view to Karaoke mode could be easier (now requires clicking to the Page View and then back to the Karaoke Mode to continue the full story). It also seems that this functionality doesn’t work if you’re using or listening to lessons from the Playlist?
But, great that you are considering this idea for other platforms as well (Android always in pocket)! And I certainly understand that not every wish can be fulfilled, there are as many of them as there are us users.
You’ve really created an excellent tool for language learning, it’s nice to follow how this evolves and where you’ll get with this. All the best for the new year that is about to begin!
