Desperately needed functionality add-ons in the Reader

LingQ is a great app. In my experience exploring the language-learning platform space, no similar application has the potential that LingQ has. It’s a fully grounded and serious app.

That being said, LingQ is currently lacking the functionality that one would expect from a 15.00/month platform. There are two functionalities in the reader that LingQ absolutely needs, and must be added in order for this application to do its job.

  1. The reader needs to accurately track audio.
It must do this unequivocally, with 99 to 100% accuracy. In my popular courses (El Hilo, for example) the tracking is literally off by two, maybe sometimes three minutes. It operates on this margin of error at least 80% of the time. It makes reading/listening exercises very inefficient.

  2. The reader needs segmented playback options.
The sentence by sentence playback has the right idea. But in its current state its a failure because 1) The audio doesn’t encapsulate the written segment (see issue #1). The written segments are often hilariously short, (quite literally, one or two words in some places).

When I listen to Spotify and the music has lyrics available, it tracks the lyrics and allows immediate playback upon the lyrics that I click. This ability to induce repetition in a controlled, accessible way is gold. Lingq needs this functionality.

Thank you.

I’ve been asking for this too. I often point to LanguageReactor as a good example of what a solid desktop UI should look like, and I’ve suggested LingQ could learn from it.

Here’s my post from a few days ago with some examples: Bringing Migaku/LanguageReactor-Style Features to LingQ
