No Alex, this is the problem. It takes sometimes about 10 to 20 seconds to get rid of this yellow pop up! Not always. Sometimes it works fine. Strange …
10-20 clicks or 10-20 seconds? I’m not sure why this would be happening. Are you only experiencing this on IE or on other browsers as well?
I experienced this with Iron (this is a special version of Chrome). I test this browser at the moment. It is late in Germany. Tomorrow I’ll test it with other browser. It seems that it happens with some popups. Others seem to work. And it doesn’t happens all the time.
It appears this issue is exclusive to Iron. If this is the case we are unlikely to address it any time in the near future. Please let us know if you experience the same problems in IE or any other browser.
It seems not to be a browser problem.
I’ve problems with Firefox as well: http://www.screencast.com/users/VeraI/folders/Jing/media/1ffdba48-71cb-40c4-ba80-4639c8025c6a You see that it took 12 seconds to close the last popup.
Same problem with Internet Explorer 8: http://www.screencast.com/users/VeraI/folders/Jing/media/b9337b19-1ca1-4b36-a1fa-4a4d070d0400 You see that it took more than 20 seconds to close the last popup.
Sorry for the bad sound quality.
To close the popup WITHOUT click you MUST move the mouse cursor into the yellow popup area and then move the mouse cursor out of the popup → the popup vanishes IMMEDIATELY.
That can be seen also in your screencasts. The problem is: you don’t move the mouse cursor into the yellow popup - so it takes so long until you finally move in and out…
see also this screencast and watch the mouse cursor movements carefully:
And I wrote about this (how to close by moving the mouse in and out) on March 23 in this thread on page 1:
Thanks for posting the videos, Vera. It is in fact as hape says. When we say “click” to close the popups you must click on the yellow word that you clicked to open the popup. You can also, if you prefer, simply move your cursor inside the popup then move it outside the popup to have it disappear.
Thanks for responding to this, hape ![]()
Recently I have some problems when I create new LingQs… It seems that when a “blue” word appears very near to the right side of the page, a pop-up doesn’t appear or is “invisible” - it means that I can try hitting “New hint” or “Known” without seeing it, but it’s not very convenient
I use Google Chrome. If it plays any role in this, I use imported lessons mostly, but they are plain texts without any formatting, so I don’t know what this problem is based on.
In the meantime I use QuickLingQ to deal with “blue” words with invisible pop-ups.
@customic - Does this happen with specific words or at random intervals? Also, can you take a screenshot or a screencast (using a program like Jing)? Being able to see the problem will help us to better understand what might be happening.
No, it does not happen with every word that is at the right side of the page, but once in a few texts it does happen. And I don’t suspect if these were some specific words. I will make a screenshot next time it happens and I’ll send it to you. But thanks for a quick response!
Oh, I think I got you wrong. By “specific words” you meant that when the pop-up does not appear next to the given word, it won’t appear no matter what, even if I hover mouse over this word for over and over again? If yes, then that’s the case. But anyway I’ll keep an eye on that.
Yes, that’s what I meant ![]()
If a bug is reproducible then it makes it a lot easier to solve, since the problem is easier to locate. Please let us know when you come across the problem again and let us know if the problem persists with that specific word. Thanks!
Jing doesn’t work at my computer, so I had to do it this way:
I hope you see two different pictures because I didn’t really know how to use the site
The problem is that when I hover over “randomly”, the popup shows up, but when I hover over “purposely”, it does not. Why? Because “purposely” is on the right side of the page. But if “purposely” were used again in the same text and if it would not be on the right side of the page, I could LingQ it then without any problems…
You can’t see it in the picture, but when I hover over “purposely”, wait a little bit and then move the mouse a little bit down, then I could click on one of the three translations or “New Hint” or “Known” without actually seeing the buttons. But it’s difficult to click it right…
The images you uploaded are impossibly small, so it’s hard to make anything out, but I understand from your explanation.
Do you experience the same problem in other browsers or is exclusive to Chrome? Also, if you change the size of the window do you continue to experience problems? Lastly, does the problem persist even after refreshing the page?
Sorry for the small size of the pictures. I’m not very familiar with Imageshacks and other such websites, I don’t use them.
When refreshing the page - the problem persists.
When changing the size of the window - now I can see popups for those problematic words, but now I can’t see popups for those which are now on the right side of the page…
In Internet Explorer I don’t see this problem, but I think I would have to use it for a longer period of time to rule it out. But OK, I will change the size of the window whenever I have problems with LingQing or I will just QuickLingQ those problematic words.
Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? I have tried in Chrome and am unable to reproduce the problem.
We apologize for the inconvenience this causes. I would, as you have already begun doing, just use QuickLingQ mode in the meantime to LingQ these words. We’ll keep an eye on this and see if we can track down the problem.
I am very excited!
It is now possible again to see the yellow hints simply by mousing over the yellow words! The hints perhaps take a little longer to appear than they did before but they do appear and then go away as soon I move on to the next word.
Thanks Alex.
By the way, I live in a part of the world where downloading fron the internet can be very slow, sometimes under 1 kB per second. This means that files can take well over an hour to download. For example, the German version of chapter 1 of Anne of Green Gables is 2.9 mB. I have downloaded 2.1 mB in about an hour. So 2.9 mB is about the most I can manage. Videos are quite impossible. I can never view them. My request is that people supply sound files for videos as well as the video files and that longer sound files be split, as they usually are at present. Again, many thanks for Lingq, especially to VeraI for her huge number of excellent lessons.
