Hi, I just installed the beta on Android. The login via Google is broken. It just thinks for a moment and then dumps you back at the login screen. Im unablw to procees past this point.
Yes, it seems that logging into an existing account using Google authentication doesn’t work, as Blueerboi and jeffhodgson reported.
Do the developers want us to log in to an existing account if we have one, or do they want us to create a new account and go through the onboarding process?
FWIW I successfully created a new account that uses password authentication. I selected five interests and the app logged me in and gave me a list of lessons.
I started to use the brand-new account I created (“Greshnikov”). (See my earlier message.) I then switched languages, first to Arabic and then to Hebrew. It had originally asked me my skill level in Russian but didn’t ask for Arabic or Hebrew when I added them.
In all three languages I looked at the screenful of lessons it showed me:
On the Russian screen it showed me lessons in Russian.
On the Arabic screen it showed me lessons in Arabic and in Russian.
On the Hebrew screen it showed me lessons in Hebrew and Arabic.
If I went back to the Russian screen it showed me lessons in Russian.
Some of the display rows were empty.
I’m unable to figure out how to post screenshots here. I tried to figure out how to use TechSmith Capture but it seemed to want to record a video so I gave up. (In Windows you have to manually strip the final period from the TechSmith URL or it fails.) Here are links to the screenshots:
I’m having an issue with the android version - I initially browsed the new app format in spanish and then switched to french. I am now getting random audio of spanish words I lingqed in spanish even if I close and reopen the app. It’s happening in french lessons, and also on the french playlist screen.
First of all - I love the new design!! New categories, trending, an easy lesson/course toggle, lesson preview…it’s awesome! It’s a much-needed update, and I like what’s been done a lot!
Three small things I’ve noticed: when I preview a course and back out of it to the main page, all icons/pictures turn gray and no text is visible. I can see where the lessons/courses are and can click on them, but everything’s grayed out.
I can’t log in with Facebook. I see an animation that indicates a window should pop up, but nothing actually happens.
It seems I have to log in every time I open the app? There’s no option to stay signed in.

Oh, another one I’ve just spotted - my vocabulary tags seem to have all disappeared on the app (haven’t tried the browser yet). I usually categorize new words when I come across them, but no tags come up for when I’m LingQing a word
Just installed the new version and again cant login with Google. This time the Google popuppop-up window comes up, but again just dumps you back on the main login screen.
I wasn’t sure whether to create a new topic for this feedback but I am opting to leave it here in this thread:
LingQ creation is less fluid in this new version. Before when you tapped on a word it would automatically present you with the 5 LingQ status levels (1,2,3,4,known) in the popup window however in the new version you have to click on the status itself before setting a new status for that word.
This might not seem like much but this is one extra press where before there was none. It’s annoying to have to use my thumbs more on the app, I want to do more reading and less thumb tapping so if this could be addressed that would be great.
The other issue I’ve been running into is that oftentimes when you click on a word it will autocreate a lingq, or change the lingq status from known to unknown - this is after I disabled auto lingq creation. I’m not sure what’s causing this but it is frustrating to have to go back and fix these errors.
On the login screen when entering the username and pressing enter it creates a line-break in the username field instead of jumping to the password field.
Playlist is broken: It only shows a small subset of lessons and they are all from one course. I have no idea how to get my full playlist back. I mean it can’t be expected of me to go into the details page of every single lesson and add them back in, can it?
Unfortunately, Google login is not working at the moment. If possible, in the meantime, please go to the website and add a password to your account. You should be able to login with your email/username and password.
We are looking into fixes for the other issues reported, with priority for the language selection which is causing problems in the library and playlist.
everytime that I am leaving the app I need to login again
After 5 minutes the app is trying to load but fails and I need to leave the app in order to see something in app
Some buttons in the lesson are not working…
Besides that, everything is great. I liked the new design the dark mode looks great and thank you very much for adding the tracking audio in the lesson. It is very helpful!
I installed 5.2.1 (299). I continued to work in Russian with my brand-new, empty account.
Two items:
If I touch a word that I don’t know, the lingq panel pops up. If I then touch another word the first word turns yellow and I have created a lingq. But if I touch elsewhere (empty space) the first word does not turn yellow and hence I conclude I did not create a lingq. It seems to me a lingq ought to be created either way.
When I sweep sideways and go to a new page, the audio speaks aloud some words, not the first unknown word on the new page but, it seems, a phrase from a previous page that I had tried unsuccessfully to turn into a multi-word lingq. Plus it doesn’t say it just once completely but says it a couple of times, interrupting itself. I’m not looking forward to trying to reproduce this one. :-0
