YouTube Importer: Use youtube auto-generated subtitles

Hi,

The auto generated subtitles on you-tube have recently become very good, at least in Indonesian.

Is there any way to allow selection of these during the import?

Here is an example:

The creator hasn’t added most subtitles because the video has text on the screen throughout – however the auto generated subtitles are very good.

Which subtitles get imported by default? If the creator hasn’t added manual subtitles, does it not just use the auto generated ones?

In this case the creator has added subtitles (selected by default) but I don’t want to use them.

Ok, at any rate, we do have a planned improvement to allow users to choose their desired captions version from the extension. So, this will be possible then. Hopefully this should be available by next month.

The dropdown to allow users to choose the caption language to import when there are multiple versions of your dictionary language has been implemented now in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Let me know how it goes.

hey that’s awesome and very timely, cheers mark!

I actually have an example I’d like to use this for, but I can’t find the option - do I need to trigger update the extension?

edit: I’m using chrome

The video has multiple language options:

You should be able to click on the subtitles dropdown you show in your screenshot and choose between the two Indonesian options.

aha duh guess my brain had assumed that was the language selector – thanks again.
