I watched this video on youtube about a Linguistic talking about his daily routine of his language exercises and the thought came to mind, Should I have a set amount of time to work on my language learning on a daily basis.
I don’t worry about it all that much, my mentality is as long your making progress your doing good.
I usually spend about an hour a day truthfully on it. On a good day 2. I went to increase that number but I am making progress and because of my other priorities of the day it’s hard to make more time. I know that’s a bit of an excuse for laziness, I know you can make time for things but do you think this is a good amount of time to start learning a language.
I don’t think that if you want to learn a language you need to jump right in it and study vocabulary for 8 hours a day. I think that should be something to gradually get yourself too.
Let me know what you think.
Also, let me know how much time you study your language(s) a day, or week and how much you would suggest for a beginner.
There are two ‘betters’: better one hour, but every day, than once a week 7 hours. And better two hours than one hour, but one hour at least if you are a beginner. If you are studying several languages at the same time, you need one hour for the main language and at least a half an hour for the second one in order to be successful.
I study german, lower intermediate or high beginner and I usually study one to two hours a day, I also study spanish and I have lessons on lingq 2-5 times a week and I study it for 30 minutes a day, so I do around 1-1.5 hours of german and 0.5-1 hours of spanish a day, on weekends I have time for more, so I do a bit more.
yeah, I think 1-2 hours is pretty standard. If I had a lot more free time I’d like aim for about 3-4 hours a day, but I won’t rush anything.
It also depends on what you consider “studying”. I spend many hours a day listening to the radio in different languages, but I don’t consider that “studying”, I can spend hours reading books in different languages, but I don’t consider that studying either.
Sitting down and actually studying I spend probably 1-2 hours a day, and I hate it hahaha, I prefer engaging in some amusing activity instead.
I wish I had the discipline to do what he does
