Word ratings not sticking - Lag

Hello.

Often when I am rating words, the rating doesn’t stick - in the sense that if I rate a new word ‘4’, it returns immediately to blue. I have to try multiple times, and wait for ~10 seconds.

This happens seemingly irregularly/unpredictably and while this has happened in the past - recently it’s been much more of an issue - occurring multiple times during articles.

This takes place on the web version, with a strong Internet connection, and even on short articles. It really breaks the flow of trying to read at best, and at worst means that a core functionality of LingQ is broken. I’ve given up multiple times on different articles because of this. Can you please take a look?

Thanks

Sorry to hear that. What browser are you using?

Post must be at least 20 characters.

Chrome.

Thanks, we will investigate that.

I have been experiencing the same issues. I am using the latest version of Chrome. As it seems random, I have been keeping a close record of when it happens. Additionally to the rating not being saved, when there is multiple pages I will often get kicked back to the first page when I click the rating.

My observations…

  1. It seems to only happen when my font size is larger and/or when I have multiple pages in the lesson. The longer I am lesson and consecuently the second page or higher, the more likely it is to happen.
  2. Using the keyboard instead of the mouse reliably works and does not cause any issues, only when I click with the mouse.
  3. I have tried multiple browsers and ignito mode. They all suffered the same issue.
  4. The browser zoom level doesn’t seem to make any difference.
  5. I am learning hebrew and have not tried it with any other language.

Current work around has been to use the keyboard exclusively for selecting rating and/or set the font size low in enough that everything fits on the same page.

The same thing is happening in vanilla Safari with no plugins etc active. It happens with the keyboard or clicking.

@zoran it appears to be related to what seems like AI lookups for words. The lookup takes time to return a result, and during that time you can’t select a rating. This is what is causing the delay.

In the first example below, the rating doesn’t stick - because the definition is being generated by AI.

This AI definition feature could be useful, but not if it actively slows down the ability to read articles to this degree. Word ranking shouldn’t be dependent on the AI definitions loading - there should be some kind of fall-back.

Screenshot of the AI definition loaded, which lets you then rate/rank the word. I can’t share more than one screenshot in a post apparently because I am a new member.

Thanks, much appreciated. Our team will check this.

This should be fixed now.

Thanks. The AI lookup is still delayed, but it doesn’t seem to impact the ratings any longer.

I’ll report back if it crops up again. Cheers!

I’ve actually been having this issue for a couple months. It’s a little annoying but I didn’t think to mention it until seeing this topic. I had it happen once again this morning. Anecdotally, I agree with @clickysteve that it seems correlated to the sluggish AI definitions.
