Why is the sentence so long?
Sentences are frequently long when you have “stream of consciousness” dialog. When people are relating their thoughts, or even describing a past event to someone, they don’t think in exact coherent sentences.
I apologize for not expressing myself clearly. I meant why the sentences in the imported videos on lingQ become so long without any breaks.
No, I think you were clear, but I didn’t answer very well.
The sentence you’re highlighting IS the sentence. LingQ can’t split it into smaller sentences because then it wouldn’t match the dialog.
Could it be split? For example before “but still”? Yes, but that would place an extended pause before the “but” and I’m guessing that there is no extended pause in the dialog at that point.
I have noticed that this problem is common in transcripts from some podcasters/Youtubers in particular - like Russian from Max. I believe that @Mycroft has a reasonable explanation. I wish that the software that transcribes such could just place periods in logical places.
PS: the reason Max is so interesting to listen to most of the time is because he speaks from notes rather than reading text. All podcasters should take a lesson from that.
lingq是以句号,问号,感叹号的符号结尾分一段的,没有句号就不会单独为一段。
