Why is the Reader Text-To-Speech so Shockingly Slow?

I’ve been using Lingq for roughly 5 years now, and recently the reader speed on Web (google chrome) has been increasingly slow. There are times when I highlight a sentence and I’ll be lucky if 7 or 8 seconds don’t pass before hearing the actual speech.

It’s seriously hindering my learning experience as I’m waiting (what feels like) years to get any text feedback. Please can technical support find a way for the app to run faster? This isn’t good.

Have you accidentally adjusted the audio speed to a lower speed?

I think he’s saying it doesn’t even respond with audio for 7-8 seconds…not that he’s hitting the turtle icon and getting a slowly read response.

Apoligies if I wasn’t clear. I don’t mean that the audio speed is slow. I mean that the responsiveness of the actual audio playing when a word or sentence is highlighted is very slow. If I highlight a sentence, it can take 7-8 seconds or even 10 seconds before the audio plays.

Sorry to hear that. I can’t reproduce that problem on my end. When did you first noticed it?

I have the same problem on the web reader (firefox), it started happening about a month ago for me. Certain words play immediately, some words take 5-10 seconds to playback like mentioned in the first post. It’s the same issue on all 3 languages I’m learning.

Thanks, we’ll investigate that.

It’s been going on for quite some time now.

Just confirming that the last few days have been back to normal for me at least. The TTS is loading almost instantly now for me like it used to!

Cheers.

@mhast Great, thanks for letting me know.

@zoran as an update, I’m no longer able to use the highlighted sentence function at all for LingQ on Web (Google chrome) nor the application (Iphone) - I sent you an email with a short video of what I see. Essentially the translation only loads and nothing else.

Please can you let me know if your developers fix this? I’ve missed several days of learning as I can’t actually use the app anymore. It’s almost as if the database or wherever the Text-to-speech is queried can’t make a connection and is left hanging on “loading”.

thanks

ChatGPT is having issues on their end: “The engine is currently overloaded. Please try again later”, so issues are on the provider side. Hopefully, it will get back to normal soon.
Thanks for your patience.
