Whisper Audio Transcription: Text COMPLETELY Out Of Sync With Sound

Some time ago I reported an out-of-sync issue with AI transcription, but it seems to have escalated to another level, so I’m opening a new thread.

I tried the feature again today. After importing the audio, the transcription is beautiful, but when looking at it in sentence view, you play the audio and it has NOTHING to do with the text.

@zoran You said the devs were going to look into it, what is happening? AI transcription is a key feature being sold by LingQ, we are all paying for it, but it doesn’t work. What are you going to do? Refund it? Fix it? Give us AI credits for all the months it has been broken?

Here is how to replicate.

  1. Import the file below (click Download then Import Audio in Lingq), set language to Turkish.
  2. Go to sentence mode.
  3. Hit play on the first sentence.
  4. Go to the next sentence. Repeat.

Please try to re-convert your file to mp3 again by using this online tool:

and them import it again and transcribe.

Okay, I don’t understand why the mp3 file should be a problem, but I converted the mp3 file to mp3 again using your tool.
I imported it again. It changes nothing at all. Nothing is synchronized. Please try it.

I verified that the original and converted mp3 are different, they have different checksums

rb - dialog (online-audio-converter.com).mp3 : 351158253388648e399914d5f4d26cb7

Here is the converted file

Thanks, we will investigate this further.

Thank you Zoran. This really needs to be fixed. Importing audio is completely broken, at least for Turkish.

We spoke about this two months ago already. Do you have an estimate for when this will be investigated?

The issue has been reported again to our developers. I can’t give you an estimate, but I’ll do my best to have this figured out and fixed asap.

Thank you Zoran.
I can’t wait to have that feature working, it’s going to be amazing.

SEE MY LATER EDIT. IT’S NOT FULLY FIXED
Today (May 7 2026) I imported some audio and the problem seems to be solved. I don’t know whether LingQ moved to a different AI provider, changed the prompt or GPT or whatever underlying AI improved, but for Turkish the text and audio now seem to be in sync. So happy.

@balat Thanks for the update, much appreciated!

May 7 2026 update: improved but not fixed.

  • File #1: audio and text almost perfectly synched (sometimes the last syllable or two of audio gets cut off from a sentence)
  • File #2: in sync at the beginning, out of sync for part of the file (audio doesn’t match the text at all), back in sync, out of sync again…

So it improved, but there’s still improvement possible.

@zoran
Here is a file so you can replicate

  • import to Turkish
  • play in sentence mode
  • go to sentence 106: perfectly in sync
  • sentence 107: part of the audio is missing from the text
  • sentence 108: almost completely out of sync
  • sentence 109: text and audio are completely unrelated
  • sentences 110-129: text and audio are completely unrelated
  • sentence 130: starts out of sync, finishes in sync
  • sentence 131: in sync

This happens at least once more in the file
