What (physical) books are you currently reading in your target language?

I’m (slowly) reading 酒の友、めしの友。I’m a big fan of the author, 安部夜郎さん, and his work 深夜食堂。To be honest, this book has caught me by surprise. It’s a lot more difficult than his previous work (even though it’s mainly about eating!). I guess partly because this book is a short novel compared to the his manga work. How tricky is this book? Well, 上手い is written as 旨い for one…Tons of vocabulary I have never come across before mixed in with a bit of keigo (ie: words like 拙作).

When it comes to reading this level of difficulty, I usually push myself through the entire novel - even if I don’t fully comprehend, or enjoy it. It’s probably not the best strategy but hey - to get better at something it’s good to do the difficult things once in a while.

I’m also re-reading 明日カノ which is about young women in Japan essentially living a double life to pay the bills. It’s geared towards young adults/adults. Compared to the first time I read these, I can finish one volume in an entire sitting.

I am currently reading Das Erbe der Magie on my Kindle. I remember going through the entire fantasy series back in high school, and it truly captivated me…it sparked my imagination and held my attention in a way few other books did.

I was genuinely surprised and delighted to discover that a German translation exists! Although I haven’t uploaded the book to LingQ yet, I definitely plan to dive deeper into it after I’ve brushed up on some other texts and vocabulary here on the platform. For now, I’m focusing on strengthening my foundation so that I can fully enjoy and understand the book in German when the time comes.

None. That’s why I’m here.
