What is the best meeting room platform for teaching? I don’t have a paid Zoom account. Is Google Meet okay to use?
I meet with several italki teachers regularly. Skype is preferred by all, but now that its closed most are using Teams, but one is using Google Meets. Teams can be buggy and doesn’t have a good UI. Meets is simpler and more reliable. I think its the next best.
I’ve been using Google Meet with new meetings since you can put a permanent meeting link on your profile and just click on that to join the lesson with your student. I don’t like that I can’t message them easily, though, if we have ongoing sessions and I want to give them homework or other tasks. I’ve found Microsoft Teams helpful for that since I could just migrate all my Skype contacts to it. I’ve only had problems with one student connectivity on Teams and it sometimes just cuts his audio off. Other than that, Teams has been great for staying in touch and sending messages about meetings.
