What is moichendise?

almost dead Jack… “Don’t touch-a da moichendise.” (Stephen King, Talisman)

Well, “moichendise” is Brooklyn (Jewish). “Touch-a” and “da” are Italian.

The word is “merchandise.” It’s written that way to simulate the dialect of an old-fashioned (i.e. around 1940s-1970s) Italian with a New York accent. I know this because I’m a New York native with Italian ancestry, and that’s how my grandparents used to say it.
