What is a sounding board supposed to do? Simply listening to what you say, or propagating your opinions?
A dictionary describes the following three meanings:
a structure behind or over a pulpit, rostrum, or platform to give distinctness and sonority to sound
a device or agency that helps propagate opinions or utterances

Sean Hannity has reportedly acted as a “conduit” for Trump’s messaging. Does this mean that Hannity has been a sounding board for Trump?

In this situation, a sounding board is not supposed to spread a word about your problem and inclinations.
In your first post, the third definition is the correct meaning in the sentence you cited. And that’s also the most common of the three meanings, in my view.
Do you imagine that the sounding board is facing you in order to listen to what you are going to say, or it is set behind you and you are sitting on the couch at Dr Freud’s office in London or Vienna? It seems that sounding boards were originally supposed to be set behind you or over you.
Until this thread I had never really thought of the actual object, just the person or group. And in that case you would face them, as in most normal discussions.
I wonder if [[Paivi]] was joking. Who is “he” that is “getting fed up with Trump”?

It seems that OyVey_6Gorillion", which was one of his recent usernames, changed to “Paivi”, and then the person deleted the account attached to it, for some reason. I wonder who is the new “Paivi”.
I imagine that if you delete your account, you will be unable to edit your posts for ever. So Paivi would not be able to edit "[[Paivi]]"s posts, which are filled with strange words, such as “tool”, “douche”, “douchebag”, “instable”, “fragile”, “thick”, “retarded”. He should have had edited his old posts before he deleted the account attached to the old Paivi. New Paivi is unable to edit/delete Old Paivi’s posts. Only the administrator could do it.
A sounding board may be a friend that you trust so that you can “talk your thoughts out” so that you can hear yourself! (Especially for extroverts) when thoughts are said out loud one gains better understanding!
