What are you reading?

finished Heidi, definitely good stuff. If you want a fantastic film version of the story, watch the 1937 one with Shirley Temple! She captures the Heidi character perfectly

How do you like Revelation Space? It has been on my to-read list for a long time.

In Swedish I’m reading Utvandrarna by Vilhelm Moberg. In Korean I started reading the first Harry Potter book, but the translation left a lot to be desired. Instead I’m reading a translation of I, Robot by Isaac Asimov.

It was hard in the beginning, but now I am 24% of the way through the book, and I am all in it. I love it now. I recommend it. You must give that book a chance.

It is not the first sci-fi book by Alastair Reynolds for me. I have read Galactic North. It is a bunch of short stories, and it’s also very good. I have read a couple of stories, and I have liked the writer’s style and have decided to read a longer book.

It is a hard book for me to read, but now I can read it on Kindle. Actually, I’ve read some parts on LingQ because scf-fi is difficult reading for me, but it’s great.

After your reading your answer I did read some more reviews on goodreads for Revelations Space and Galactic North. It definitely made me want to read them even more! After I finish the books I read now I will pick up a book in the Revelation Space series.

When I learned English, the lessons at school were barebones (we had grammar exercises, and that was all), and I improved my level by going to forums in English rather than reading foreign literature in the original language… mainly because it was expensive as hell lol.
When I learned Russian, I listened to music, went to Russian language sites, because I couldn’t read actual books in Russian until rather late after I had my first lessons (don’t trust the flag on my profile, I’m actually Belgian, just living in Russia). The books I read were Metro 2035, which I bought the very day it came out but could only read and understand a couple months ago, and a couple historical books about WW2, because I already do know the technical language quite well.

Now I’m fighting on two fronts : first, I’m learning the very, very basics of Japanese and hope to be able to read some manga or watch some anime in the original some day to help (it will just take some time because in my experience, I need a lot of time until I’m able to read/listen and understand reliably) and since I’m working in an English speaking company, I’m simply reading articled about my professionnal sphere in English, in order to root out the last issues I have with that language. For example, that’s what I have in my active thumbnails right now Local and international press see the light at the end of the tunnel for Greece – Tranio.Com ; but I like articles by The Economist and Forbes as well, they’re a little bit on the heavy side but the vocabulary and grammar are great.

Great story man! Keep going!
