I read Kato Lomb’s book last year (also in English), it was very interesting. As for The Linguist I have read it in Italian, Spanish and French on lingq and at present am reading it in English. I would be glad if this book was available in Greek too.
In my native language, Swedish, I’m not reading anything at the moment. In English I’m reading lots of books about programming and other technical documents. In my target language, Japanese, I’m currently reading a book called そして生活はつづく (“And life goes on”).
I am finished The Wonderful Wizard Oz, Alice in the Wonderland, Deathworld by Harry Harisson, And now I an half on The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. I am really excited.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a quite interesting story.
I read the half of the Black Cat, a mini story by Edgar Allan Po, tomorrow I want to read the rest of the story. I can’t read a lot in English or Spanish on LingQ. I hope, I’ll have more time to read and improve my English and Spanish this summer.
I read The Black Cat by Poe for the first time the other day. Such a chilling story!
Still haven’t read the rest of the story! I don’t know if I am really super busy or lazy… And yeah, it’s a chilling story!
@ftornay
Are there any Spanish novels similar in style to Akunin?
We have it here on LingQ?
Right now I have been watching Netflix’s Spanish language shows with the Spanish subtitles. I’ve gone through La Reina del Sur, Teresa, Ingobernable, and am about to finish Cable Girls (Las Chics del Cable). It’s reading and listening! ![]()
I also check in with El Pais, ABC, and several other Latin newspapers for the news. I like reading Mexican papers to learn what they are saying about Trump.
“The Uses of Disorder: Personal Identity and City Life” by Richard Sennett
Richard Sennett was born in Chicago in 1943. He is one of my favorite sociologists.
“Richard Sennett was born in Chicago in 1943. He grew up in the Cabrini Green Housing Project, one of the first racially-mixed public housing projects in the United States. At the age of six he began to study the piano and the cello, eventually working with Frank Miller of the Chicago Symphony and Claus Adam of the Julliard Quartet. Mr. Sennett was one of the last students of the conductor Pierre Monteux. In 1963 a hand injury put a sudden end to his musical career; for better or worse he then embarked on academic study.”

I agree about the great content. I particularly like the story of the Conquest of Mexico and the Story of the Alamo in Texas. The one on the Romanovs/Russian Revolution was neat as well.
I was en route to 12,000 words in Spanish or right around there when I went through those a bunch of times. However, you might find the biggest challenge to be the audio quality. You might have to crack up the volume and ignore some of the music.
I’m reading ‘O Diário de um Mago’ by Paulo Coelho in Portuguese, which is translated into English as ‘The Pilgrimage’. It’s about the Camino de Santiago, which I am starting in less than two weeks. I find that Paulo Coelho’s books are well suited to my current level of Portuguese because I can read them quite comfortably and without difficulty. I’m still making a lot of lingQs as I go, but I’m also coming across a lot of blue words that I already know. 10,000 words, here we come!
Check Arturo Pérez Reverte’s novels
I would like to know what are the English titles of the books you mentioned in your blog Veral? So I can matche and read simultaneously
How about one of the Harry Potter books in German? They are pretty easy if you’ve already read them in English. Of course not all of the vocabulary will be useful in your day-to-day life.
Currently reading Bonjour Tristesse by Françoise Sagan in French and I may start Heidi by Johanna Spyri in French as well soon
I am reading Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds and The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa (in English)
Historical fiction samurai epic with lots of implicit and explicit lessons about life and what matters in it, morality, honor, martial philosophy, discipline, wisdom, humility, masculinity and the meaning of being a man, character building, plus a love story and brutal fighting scenes. Highly recommended.
Journal en Francais Facile
I read the Bible, Drei Kameraden (in German) and also some German translations of Stephen King.
Right now I am reading the novel “Es” (“It”). It’s about a good-natured clown who lives in the sewage and is constantly bullied and harassed by evil and spoiled kids.
