On left-hand side of the vocabulary page, some words are followed by a yellow/gold badge and a number. (Circled in red in the attached screenshot.) Some are not. There is no correlation with the numbers on the scale on the right-hand side of the page which I presume indicate one’s familiarity with the word. I’d appreciate knowing what these numbers on the left refer to. Many thanks.

I believe these words are marked with higher importance so you get more coins for your daily goal by learning them.

What rooster said is correct, common words are worth more coins than uncommon ones.
