Hi,
I have a question. In USA, is there a walk through metal detector at the enterance in MOST high schools?
Last night, I watched the episode of American TV show named Veronica Mars. (I like it!) In the episode, there is a walk through metal detector at the entrance with two security guards in public high school.
Is this a special case only in special area?
Or is this a common case in USA?
How about it at the entrance in middle school or elementary school in USA?
How about it at the entrance in college in USA or in your country?
Just my curiosity.
I don’t think it’s common, but then again, I graduated from high school in 1995. It also depends on the part of the country, I think. For example, I’ve read that many schools in Los Angeles have metal detectors.
I went to high school in California and there was no such thing in any of the schools that I visited while attending various events. However, there are metal detectors in some high schools across the US. It’s possible that in some of the ghettos of LA there are metal detectors at the high schools, but even so they are quite rare on a national scale. Usually they will only be in places where there have been previous crimes committed (Columbine, for instance).
I think that metal detectors in schools are very rare. They have them, but perhaps only in “high risk” areas where violence is present among younger children. Also perhaps in bigger cities, but even then I don’t think it is common.
Who knows what the future will hold though.More and more people seem to worry about the “what if?” that perhaps they will become more prevalent. We’ll have to see how it plays out.
alex and der_wanderer,
Thank you for the information. I’m glad to hear that the metal detectors in US schools are rare. I was a little surprised it when I saw the TV show.
