The kind of song that motivates you to learn German

“Curiously enough, I quite like Rammstein…”

Agreed. Rammstein songs (and lyrics) are not by any means without some genuine artistic merits.

(Not that I’m a HUGE fan…)

But Marlene Dietrich still wins by a mile … thank you, tora3

I’m a bit late on the scene here, but nevertheless: as a learner of German I never took Knorkator’s songs seriously. But then neither does the band itself. I do think they are an unusually witty band, but it’s of course an acquired taste; some will see the humor, others won’t. It’s only normal. The English Wikipedia features this comment describing their style: “Due to the amusing message, however, the band’s considerable technical and artistic merit is sometimes overlooked.”

Vera, do you find absolutely nothing about them intelligent? Can I try to persuade you a bit?

I’d like to know what you think about these songs. They’re less vulgar, but still have the wittiness and humor I was talking about. They also showcase Stumpen (the singer)'s crazy vocal range.

When it comes to German music I like these ones: - YouTube
- YouTube

@Makacenko

The first one is music?? The singer must have some illness, the German “message” is not understandable even to a native like me, and seems to be in the same category of so called “music” like Rammstein, Knorkator, etc. that 99+% of all Germans NEVER listen to.

The second is an electronic classic. Great music by Kraftwerk, like it a lot.

Only Rammstein, is it? Wow.

Actually, I only liked Marlene Dietrich out of this thread. :stuck_out_tongue:

@SanneT: OK, aber dann gehörst du zu den < 1 % …

Rammstein and Das Ich fit the stereotypical German sound for me. I love the red devil man - I think it’s mad!

Kraftwerk are classic!

But I was surprised when I came across

Ich + Ich - a soft and very listenable sound

and

Culcha Candela - worldly and punkish in attitude

A better link for German learners for Culcha Candela is

Also, Leute, Ihr sorgt wirklich für meine musikalische Bildung!

@ ghenders You might also like the Comedian Harmonists, like Roger Cicero, very clear diction. Although the songs are from the 1920 and 30s, they are still good fun. (The film was great and the soundtrack became an international hit, of sorts!)

@SanneT, Thanks for the suggestion. I have the DVD and it is one of my favorites.

@ghenders: do you know Annett Louisan, Götz Alsmann or Hildegard Kneef? It might be worth a try. :slight_smile:

(“Knef” not “Kneef”)

Anything by Unheilig actually does it for me! He has some great music!
