Sometimes… but not always
Du bist an meiner Seite - you´re BY my side (in the “we´re in this together” sense)
Ich übe täglich an einem Boxsack - I practice ON a punchbag everyday
Ich bin nicht an dir interessiert - I´m not interested IN you
Er steht an der Eckfahne - he´s standing AT the corner flag
Du kommst nicht an mir vorbei - you won´t get past me
etc.
So yeah…“an” means “an”.^^

The German ‘an’ can translate into almost any word in English. The one word it can’t translate into in English is the English ‘an’.

Hier ein paar veraltete Wörter: mittels und anhand, die früher anstatt des “an” gestanden hätten.
Mittels Fallbeispiel, anhand von Fallbeispielen, an Fallbeispielen (aber durch Fallbeispiele, ohne “n”).
Anhand der vorhergehenden Beispiele wird die Vielfalt der deutschen Sprache unterstrichen.
