Suggestion: Warn about loosing your streak

Recently, I lost my streak. I only noticed it after starting a new lesson, and by then it was too late to repair it.

I suggest showing a warning message before the streak is lost, so users still have time to maintain it.

Thanks, we’ll see what we can do. I fixed your English streak.

The streak function is a double-edged sword.

On the one hand, it gamifies the learning process which makes you more motivated to keep the streak alive and read/listen to something in your target language daily (a great thing).

On the other hand, it can also overtake the actual learning process. You start to obsess over the streak number or the # of words learned, instead of using them as a means to an end.

The entire point of LingQ is to help you learn a language good enough so you can stop using it, and read/listen/speak outside of this ecosystem. Don’t forget that’s the end goal. It’s not to get to a certain streak number or certain word count number.

I don’t think it’s necessary to warn users of their streak ending. LingQ is supposed to be part of our daily routine whether it’s listening while you get ready for school or work, or reading a little or a lot throughout the day. It should be at the point where you’re not even thinking about your streak at all. Sometimes there are circumstances that make it impossible for you to use LingQ for that day.

i think a handful of streak freezes should be included :-). I don’t think I’ve come across an app that does include streak counts, that doesn’t also include (usually) 4 streak freezes that can be replenished via app engagement. Except Pimsleur, come to think of it . Pimsleur isn’t what what might call the most modern app, tho ;-).

Cheers!

Loosing the steak is not so important to me, only annoying, but to others it seems to be a issue. Getting a warning before loosing the streak, may help people to notice this, before it happens. And maybe the number of repair streak appeals in the forum decrease.

Yea I think the forum appeals needs to drop to zero. I think some of us don’t like the streak, not because of the streak feature itself but that staff time is wasted fixing streak loss. It probably take a few seconds to fix but it all adds up over time, time that could be spent on something else.
