Suggestion for importing Japanese books (EPUB format)

Hello there,
I noticed some issues when importing Japanese EPUBs with furigana on top of words into LingQ. This comes from the fact that the EPUB format uses “ruby” to add the characters (generally readings) on top of words.
Here is an example:
ちやちや
This would be imported as 滅め茶ちや苦く茶ちや into LingQ, whereas it should be 滅茶苦茶 (without the readings). A simple fix is to add a REGEX filter to remove what is in-between “” and “”, e.g. “.*?”. I believe this could easily be added by default into LingQ’s importer. Just a suggestion.
Cheers!

Thanks, we’ll see if there is anything that can be done.

It’s almost two years now, was anything done? I have the exact same issue with imported Japanese text. I feel that Lingq has misled the capability of the site service and may want to raise a request for reimbursement.

At the moment you can only import clean Janapese texts. If it has furigana on top of words it won’t work.

It’s a pity that it’s necessary, but I found this “workaround” worked for me: How to remove furigana when importing .epub files - #10 by azarya

(With the difference that I didn’t save into a word file but directly copy-pasted into LingQ’s importer. I do that anyway, because I want to import chapter by chapter.)
