I don’t really pay attention to the active streak counter, but I think being able to switch it with an “active days” counter would be really great.
The counter could count the days in a language, when you have achieved your daily goal. So pretty much like the current streak counter, except it doesn’t restart after an inactive day.
It would be really cool to see it sometime in the future.
Thanks for your feedback and suggestions. It’s not in plans to make changes regarding the streak system in the near future, but we will put this on our wishlist and keep it in mind for the future.
Thanks for adding it to the wishlist.
In the meantime, it would already be really helpful to have such a counter in the language stats, alongside words read etc.
That would be a great addition in my opinion and it wouldn’t interfere with your current streak system.
I don’t see how an active days counter would be more insightful than the known words count. Both would demonstrate a growing commitment over time without any context on how long someone has been using LingQ. If someone were to have, say, 300 active days, then so what? What if they joined 10 years ago and averaged 30 days a year? Or did 300 active days with only 1 or 2 of those days in the past year. Is that meaningful?
If it’s for your own intrinsic motivation, why not just focus on the known word count as that is by far the most meaningful measure of progress?
The streak, meanwhile, is useful in motivating many (but not all, obviously) learners to log in every day, which might be just enough for someone to make and maintain language learning as a daily habit. Daily commitment is arguably the single greatest factor in language learning success, so the streak does have a sound basis. It also shows not only daily commitment but recent use of LingQ as well. Furthermore, if someone doesn’t want to do it every day, they could simply patch the odd day with coins.
What you say makes sense.
But it’s just a number that shows how many individual days of learning you have done.
I never meant to say that it’s super insightful, meaningful and motivating, or that it should replace the streak system. It’s just another stat, that some people might consider interesting and others might find it irrelevant.
