Right now Afrikaans language levels, i.e. Beginner 1-2, Intermediate 1-2, and Advanced 1-2 are the same as French, a Romance language with grammatical gender, agreement, different declinations for plural, singular, third person etc.
As one can see, the total required for Intermediate 1 is 8160. However, this makes little sense since Afrikaans has no grammatical gender and declines much more rarely than French. I would like to request that Afrikaans be reduced to line up with either English or Dutch in known word count.
I have imported about 50 books so far, and bar a few bugs in one of the books I imported where the words got cut off (and that inflated my LingQs), I am already at a place where most lessons are about 20-30% new words. It’s a very small nitpick, but I believe it’s also a very small fix to make.
I feel like English makes the most sense since Afrikaans has about as few tenses as English, but really this must not be an exact science. It is incredibly awkward however to place Afrikaans which is much simpler than Dutch above it.
