Remove stress (accent) marks from Russian words

There is an old post discussing this in the context of writing lessons, but I can’t find anything more general.

The problem:

  • when importing Russian videos from YouTube some captions have stress marks (to show where emphasis belongs)
  • typical Russian writing does not include these stress marks
  • for example, these are not different words: корóбку / коробку – but they show up in my vocab list as distinct entries. (extra complication: stressed letters like ó sorts to the beginning of the alphabet so they aren’t adjacent in the vocab list.)
    • this inflates my known-word/lingq count – which is not really that big of a deal.
    • but it also makes it so that if I’m looking at an imported lesson that makes heavy use of stress marks, the “new word %” is higher than it should be.
    • and it also creates a higher srs “due” count than there should be.
  • as far as I can tell, in the “Edit Term” popup there is no way to actually edit the TL word, nor is there a way to collapse two entries together – please correct me if there is a way to do this

Ideally, LingQ would normalize words on imported Russian lessons to strip off any stress marks. (But without going overboard and stripping all diacritics – й and ё are distinct letters.)
