Recommend some children's books in German language

My cousin is very interested in German. She is 8 years old now. Please recommend some interesting children’s picture books.

How thoughtful of you. I am sure she will be delighted with whatever you introduce her to!

Book Box Inc. Here is their page devoted to stories in German. https://www.youtube.com/@BookboxGerman Some stories are more ineresting than others. The speed is reasonable (and adjustable) and all the text appears near the bottom of picture pages.

Undobtedly you can find many beautiful hardcopy gems for sale by browsing brick and mortar bookstores and/or online bookstores. Online you may have access to reviews from satisfied (or not so satisfied) purchasers.

I buy most of my books on eBay, those described as being in very good condition have been as good as new.

If you are looking for specific titles, some of the books I fondly remember from my own childhood (late 90s) that are in the range of picture books to first and second grade reading are:

Das kleine Ich-bin-ich (Mira Lobe)
Franz Series (Christine Nöstlinger), e.g. “Geschichten vom Franz”
Mini und Maxi Series (Christine Nöstlinger)
Conni Series (Liane Schneider)
Jan und Julia Series (Margret Rettich)

It’s probably already too advanced for her, but as children, we (i.e. my nephews and I) devoured “Mickey Mouse” and “Donald Duck” comics.

Maybe she could give it a shot because these comics are very entertaining,
even without understanding everything (btw., Deepl Translator / ChatGPT could be helpful here as well - at least for occasional translations).

Hi my niece is eight years old and she loves this series: “Die Schule der magischen Tiere” (Margit Auer). But these are no picture books.

This is not a picture book, but here’s the web site of a high-quality German TV children series: https://www.wdrmaus.de/.

I share Mini und Maxi Series (Christine Nöstlinger) with her, and she really likes it.

In case you have an Amazon account, you can access the German site https://www.amazon.de with the same account. Here you can browse for German books and get them sent home (paying the overseas shipping). For some reason, once you have found your book in the German site, you might also find the item in your home Amazon site. It will be a bit more expensive, but with local shipping fee.
