I used to be pretty good at japanese. I spent a few years learning it and it kind of culminated with me studying as an undergrad at a japanese university, taking all my technical engineering courses in japanese along native speakers and getting by without much problems. I wasn’t at a native level, but I would say fluent enough to get by doing most things I would do in my own language. I passed the JLPT 1 in 2011, but after that I haven’t been maintaining my japanese at all. Chinese took over as my main language of study and I’ve mostly been using Lingq to study that so far.
However, for various reasons I feel motivated to start reactivating my japanese again, so I’ve decided to start using Lingq for that as well. I estimate that my active vocabulary at the time of writing has decreased quite a bit since I lived in Japan, but the passive vocabulary is still pretty strong and I don’t really have much problem in following movies and tv shows, but the words don’t come to me as quick as they used to and I’ve got some holes that I need to fill.
How about you guys? Have you ever reactivated a language that you haven’t used actively in a long time and how did it go?
Also, does anytime have any tips on interesting content that can be easily imported into Ling? I’ve been out of the japanese content loop for a while, and quite a lot seems to have happened regarding online resources since 2011
