Premium Plus LingQ AI voices

Yes, those voices are used for word TTS. Hopefully, 11Labs improves its service in that area.

Thanks for the idea.

I just bought one. I’m having some connectivity issues but basically it seems useful.
It would be great if it did [next sentence], audio and translation with one button. @Zoran, if Lingq coule make these things happen with one shortcut, then LIngq would be far more useful to more people. It should be a simple shortcut. This gamepad doesn’t seem to be able to cope with alt&right but it could cope with alt& any letter.

if you want a single gamepad button to trigger a sequence of LingQ keyboard shortcuts, you can do it using Karabiner Elements on macOS. There must be a similar application for Windows. Karabiner Elements recognizes the Micro. Using Complex Modifications in KE, you can map each gamepad button to keyboard keys or macros.

Here is the script to save in Complex Modifications in KE. I don’t use Shift + T however, because for some reason this does not work on my mac, neither in Sentence nor in Page view. I added it for you however.
To make this script be triggered by a button on just one device, you will need

  1. to check how the button you want to modify is mapped → open Karabiner-EventViewer and push that button
  2. vendor_id / VID: 1234
    product_id /PID: 5678
    of the gamepad. You will find these in the list of connected devices in the Simple Modifications view. Modify the script accordingly.

Here is the script, go to Complex Modifications → Add your own rule:

{
  "description": "8BitDo Micro your_button_name → Shift+RightArrow, Shift+T, a",
  "manipulators": [
    {
      "type": "basic",
      "from": { "key_code": "your_button_name" },
      "to": [
        { "key_code": "right_arrow", "modifiers": ["shift"] },
        { "shell_command": "sleep 0.3" },
        { "key_code": "t", "modifiers": ["shift"] },
        { "shell_command": "sleep 0.3" },
        { "key_code": "a" }
      ],
      "conditions": [
        {
          "type": "device_if",
          "identifiers": [
            { "vendor_id": 1234, "product_id": 5678 }
          ]
        }
      ]
    }
  ]
}

So this is a workaround. But I second the idea of having one umbrella shortcut in LingQ for less clicking / less distraction. Ideally LingQ would cooperate with 8BitDo on their own LingQPad :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Do your connectivity issues keep happening? I’ve had no such problems so far with mine.

Hello Mark, can you please confirm when the regular premium users will have access to some sort of an advanced voice?

These voices are already available for our most popular languages.

Unfortunately, most languages will not get these AI voices, but they are available in the most popular 9 languages already. As our provider adds languages, we will make them available here too but no idea when that would be and which languages would be affected.

No, my question is different, I’m talking about modern langauges like German. I’m asking when the regular premium users, say in German, will get any sort of an improved AI voice? I’m aware the premium plus users already have them but i remember a mention that said that us would have some sort of an improvement as well.

I hope the Spanish voice will improve for everybody because it’s not very good: bad rhythm, micropauses in the wrong places, …
I’d do a lot more daily listening if it were just pleasant; not great, just pleasant.

Great innovation.
I use android though to reduce screen glare.
We souldn’t have to be all techie to learn from Lingq.

Josef is an AI voice now available for German.

For Auto play audio, Auto show translation and etc. LingQ mentioned in comments they are adding options for them so should see some updates in due time.

@rhea137 @bbbblinq I received mine yesterday, works well for me on android, haven’t tried on PC.

Thanks for your reply, Mark. As I mentioned before, this voice has a lot of unnatural pauses and honestly sounds much worse than a normal one like Vicki.

I just tried it again after your message, and yes, the Josef voice is pretty broken.

Anyone who speaks German will immediately understand what I mean once they generate even 10 seconds of audio for a lesson.

Also, on the Android app Josef still shows up with the AI symbol next to it, which means I can’t even select it there. The only way I’ve been able to use it is by switching to the web version.

I’d really like to use a voice like Josef, but it definitely needs optimization to sound natural. Right now it just feels completely broken and doesn’t even come close to the quality of Vicki.

Is there any estimate of when Persian AI Voices will be available for Premium Plus users? I visited the Eleven Labs website and noticed that they already offer support for this language.

Unfortunately, there do seem to be some issues there. We are looking into it to see whether it can be improved or not.

Thanks Mark! I don’t think that Josef voice should even be on the platform without optimization… it’s just point blank broken
