My lord what has happened? LingQ - whatever you did - roll it back. You’ve totally ruined polular meanings with AI - if that’s what it is. I used to get accurate meanings for phrases longer than a single word. Now I get weird answers. And some single words have weird predictive responses that give meanings for the word that comes after the word selected. And what’s with the new LingQ square above Continue Studying? Weird spot for a link I don’t want to use.

Similar in armenian, the AI translation I get is not for the word I selected, the translation is for the previous word

And where have all the popular meanings gone? They’ve been mosty wiped? I’m either getting only the AI version or maybe one to two max popular meanings?

@JargonArabiyeh You can now disable “Show contextual meanings” under Settings > Reader.

Thanks - good to know. It seems though that I’m still getting contextual meanings even after disabling this feature. For example in the screenshot attached I have selecred the word which means “like exercises”). LingQ has taken the subsequent word and made a contextual meaning which for this word alone is titally false.

Another example here: I have selected the phrase which means “it is sweet for him”(i.e. he enjoys) and it has taken the subsequent words to suggest a meaning of “he enjoys solving”. This prediction is true for what comes next, but not for the section I have selected.

I have the same problem. However, I’ve found that the AI is much better at understanding words from dialects than online dictionaries.
For example, I was listening to audio from the DLI Iraqi Arabic catalogue (which is extensive for obvious reasons) and the AI correctly picked up on words like “Chan” (Iraqi for Kan) and Simich (Iraqi for Samak). This wasn’t the case previously, without the AI feature.
I haven’t tried it with other dialects, but I imagine it would be the same if not better, given the online resources in Egyptian and Shami dialects.

This doesn’t really adress my concern though. I’m not talking about word definitions. I’m talking about the AI replacing word meanings with full phrases based on the content that follows, rather than just the meaning of the word selected.

I understand, I was merely pointing out that the AI has some positives and some glitches. It doesn’t seem like a fundamental issue and they’ll be able to sort it out.
