Who will be attending? I saw that Robert and Anthony will be presenting. Anyone else from the Lingq community? Information regarding program and presentations is still relatively scarce.
Christophe Clugston will hopefully not be giving the keynote speech?
ad Friedemann: I think more detailed information about the program and the various presentations will be available soon. I have to admit I have not sent in my abstract yet because I have been very busy (I am at a conference right now and don’t finish work before 9 pm every day). I’ll be back home this weekend and will put together an abstract I can send to Richard.
I will focus on interpreting and translating in my presentation since this is what I know best. Amongst other things, I’ll try to talk about how you can practise both without going to university and how translating and interpreting may be a useful tool for language learners in general. As far as I see it, translating and interpreting could be activities at the “end” of your language learning process (even though we all know there is never an end to any learning process) but it could also serve as a valid means to explore the language you are studying in more depth.
Apart from these “technical” aspects I might also present a few anecdotes from my work experience.
If there is anything else any lingq member would like me to include in my presentation, I’d be more than happy to receive any suggestions from you. As I said, I’ll be putting together the abstract some time this weekend once I’m back home from my 3-week conference tour (this time, a real “tour de force” for me because there are so many technical conferences; well, at least now I know how to say “Wirbelringschraube”/swivel eye bolt in French ;-).
ad Jay: Thanks for including me in your list of “language masters” Auch wenn es eigentlich zuviel der Ehre ist, freue ich mich darüber. I’ll try to answer a few of the questions you raised when this conference is over.
Have you heard anything about accomodation or a list of hotels close to the venue? Have you already booked something?
@Robert: “…Thanks for including me in your list of “language masters” Auch wenn es eigentlich zuviel der Ehre ist, freue ich mich darüber. I’ll try to answer a few of the questions you raised when this conference is over…”
You definitely belong in the list!
It’d be great if you could give us some information about the learning methods you use.
ad Friedemann: I have already booked a room at a hotel in the city centre. Have you registered for the conference? If yes, you should have received a mail by now with the address of the venue. I have read on their facebook page that this time they can only accept 100 people and that they already have some people on the waiting list in case some of those who have registered cannot make it to the conference. This is mainly due to the fact that they had to try and raise money to fund the project and you can only do so much with a certain amount of money (paying for the venue, providing catering, etc.).
If you send me a pm on my youtube channel I can tell you where I will be staying once I’m back home (I don’t remember the exact name right now).
I think I still have your Email address, you remember, when I sent you my vocab list…
I’m registered and coming to Budapest, no hotel booked yet though. Robert, could you send me a private message on here with the hotel details? Looking forward to your lecture!
Really looking forward to meeting so many people from the online language community!
