One idea and some bugs

Hello everyone! I’ve come up with one idea that potentially is already available on Lingq but I wasn’t able to find it.

I use a specific approach of learning. I’m currently working on my Dutch and using English as a base language. I find them compatible to some extent (the same language family). It’s worked for me pretty well, and I decided to try the trick with something else.

My native language is Russian, and I plan to learn Polish the same way (Polish → Russian). But as I can see in the interface, I can’t choose another language for translation but the one I’ve already chosen which is English.

Is it possible to have an option for selecting the language I need for translation without changing the interface’s one? If it’s already here, please forward me to the right place.

As a bonus, I want to share some bugs I’ve caught recently (iOS):

  1. iPhone cursor moves a translation. When you need to change a translation in an text field, the translation block starts moving to the side. iOS doesn’t have the same position pick in a word like Android.
  2. Correction of translation on web. Known or added words can’t be edited in a desktop browser.
  3. Words adding while listening. For example, a user sees a verb which is in a Past Participle form and wants to add an infinitive too without leaving the lesson.
  4. Impossible to fill notes, a keyboard blinks. I check the words in a lesson summary, update translations, and want to add notes for some of them. The keyboards starts blinking (appearing for a second), it can be fixed by re-opening the editing.
  5. Words selection on multiple lines. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. The feature wasn’t here last year, now it’s available but disappears from time to time.

Does this help? Note the RU and PL in the URL.
The web version allows shortcuts which I consider important.

A version with an English interface.

Well, I guess it’s pretty close to what I want and I got a bug in the app

If you open the Russian link, the interface goes Russian but translations remain English (I’ll come back to it later). After it, when I open the app, it looks like this:

It becomes a mixture of Russian and English. When I open the second link and refresh/re-open the app, it goes back to the norm:

Saying about English translations, the thing I’ve just found out is dictionaries. I can select multiple ones both in the app and in the web. I can see sources on the site and don’t know if I can do anything with those (Russian doesn’t have Deepl, sad). Probably Lingq has the same sources in the app too, I need to double-check.

Anyway, it’s a nice trick, thank you! I’ll share my findings here.

Yes, the dictionary list is pretty much the same as in the web version. No Deepl for Russian, it might be similar for other languages if they exist in different services. I’m curious if we as users can do something with that in settings.

Another option I have is to open the dictionary source by clicking a chip above popular meanings. There we can choose the language.

Deepl:

Reverso Context:

It opens an default browser and runs a dictionary source website. It works, slightly slower in terms of UX but still ok. I need to make a swipe now when I select a word for checking its translation which never happened before. Probably it’s because of multiple dictionaries.

Now, I need to test it with Polish.
