On y tient beaucoup

Hi
Please help explain meaning of on y Tientsin beaucouo.
Thank you very much
Piyah

On y tient beaucoup = we care for it a lot = it’s very important for us.

Tenir à quelque chose / quelqu’un = to care for something / somebody.

Hi,
I have seen it translated as ‘we insist on it’. Does on y tient beaucoup has such a strong and rather authoritative sense? Definitely, it sounds much much better to say that the family of the dentist cherishes the moment of eating breakfast toghether and thus it is important for them as a family. I think I prefer your interpretation.

Thank you

Piyah

You’re welcome !
