Crazy about the New York Accent…lol…
Oh dear God, why?
I would search for New York Yankees podcasts and see what you come up with. It seems like everyone on the radio is either Michael Kaye (professional broadcaster with no accent) or someone with an accent you can chop off with an axe.
If all else fails, we can Skype, provided you sound like Pepper Pig or Padington Bear. I need to get something out of it too.
This may not be a popular opinion but I would not focus on having a certain type of accent. In the United States, there are so many accents whether you are from New York, the South, Midwest etc and natives really don’t have a desire to sound like a certain part of the country even if they move there. Probably the best way to acquire an accent is to live and be exposed constantly to a certain region (such as NYC). Even then, most people that have a New York accent grew up there or vice versa for someone that has lived in the South. That said, there are so many people that are native English speakers that for example have lived in a certain part of the US for years or even decades and still don’t have that accent.
My 2 cents is to focus on every other aspect of the language as ultimately that will be significantly more value add over the long term.
HEY!
This fellow Lawn Guylander takes issue with your suggestion that NY accents are bad!
Bwahahahaha! That’s awesome! I’ve gotten a few folks to join, but no one has ever posted from the Island before.
I knew one day you’d come!
If consuming New York content is your thing, i have nothing in regards to podcasts. However, Larry David from Curb Your Enthusiasm, Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci from The Irishman all have quintessential New York Brooklyn accents.
Happy to be of service!
Not on the forums or even the site much since I’m pursuing my Spanish learning largely on other services, but I was delighted to see your username! Long Island is an expensive dump full of obnoxious people, but I love it here and it’s home. <3
Oh indeed it is…both for me as well. No one has ever asked about the username and no one has ever been around the forum who happens to just “know it” – until you! Hell…I’m just glad someone is in the same time zone for once here.
NY
Reprsent! There’s a doctor in the house!
Hey Kassy check out Larry Lawton on Youtube, he is from New York. And he makes podcasts of him reading his book. He talks about his life as a Jewel thief, and going to prison, and now life outside of prison.
AYYY IM WALKIN HEER
(Sorry, I don’t have any resources, but you definitely need to practise this phrase if you want to speak with a New York accent
