New Update: LingQ Exchange, Membership Changes

I just thought that it would be good to have the option of recording a conversation report. When a student asks for writing correction plus Record Audio there is a possibility to upload a recording. Would it be possible to add this feature to a conversation report. I have been using recorded reports with my Czech tutor for a while, sending the recording by email. Including the possibility with the report would make things easier. Thank you!

I like Reinhard’s idea, too!

@alleray - That’s a good idea. We’ll add that to the wishlist!

@mikebond - I also agree with your suggestion. We’ll figure out what we can do there. Keep in mind that you can do this now by correcting the writing but uploading any audio file for the audio and just explaining in the comments what you have done.

I sometimes save recordings in my dropbox and then give the public link, but have this feature included would be fine. Great idea, Reinhard!

@Mark: yes, I also thought about that by-pass solution and that’s what I may do until a real solution can be implemented.

There is still the problem of knowing whether a public request is being worked on by another tutor. It should not be possible to open “Fulfill request” as soon as another tutor has started to work on it. Previously it was possible to see “Being corrected” when you pointed the cursor on the arrow icon. Maybe this could be added to the “Fulfill request” button. It should then be up to the student to award all points or part of the points, waiting for other corrections or recordings, as the case may be.
In one particular case I clicked on “Fulfill request” recorded the text, which took about 30 minutes, because I had to interrupt briefly and relisten to the recording afterwards, and finally uploaded the file with a comment, only to see that the request had already been completed by another tutor and all the points been awarded to them.
It’s no big deal, because I like to help students, but it’s something you should look into.
In the meantime it would help if a tutor wrote a note under the posted request saying “I have started working on this request”, but as long as it is possible to “fulfill” the request after someone has already started, it’s always a case of first come first served. That’s why I won’t fulfill any public requests until this issue is solved.

I agree with alleray.

Because of similar anxiousness that someone may already be working on the request, I have yet to help on any requests. I know there are a lot of qualified native English speakers on the site, so I half-way expect each time I hit the “fulfill” button, that someone has taken, or is taking, care of it.

Anything that makes the exchange section more user friendly, and therefore more used, will be greatly appreciated. I think the features will prove extremely useful for me as soon as there are more native speakers of my target languages correcting and recording.

I’m sorry for you Reinhard. And I agree that there should be a note if someone else has started yet with a correction, translation, recording etc. I’ve mentioned this problem before and Alex or Mark told me that they want to see how this works out. Next time I’ll add a note as you have suggested.

I’m willing to send you half of the points as a gift but first I want to know if the reduction of 25% works for gifts too. Otherwise the points were double reduced.

Thanks for the feedback. Certainly appears to be a reasonable request. I cannot speak for technical side but I am sure we will work on it. I think the exchange can be great and we need to work out all the bugs or inconvenient features.

Where can I see Public Requests for writing corrections? Is there a certain page I need to go to? I can’t find any info. about this.
