@ Mark , Thanks for the reply. However searching by inputting the collection name DOES NOT WORK well at all for me. I a have collection called “Talk to me in Korean - Iyagi” with over 40 lessons in there so far. IF i search for “Iyagi” for example only 5 lessons show up. If I then search to “talk to me in korean” 10 lessons show up . If i search for the full title “Talk to you me in Korean - Iyagi” 15-20 show up… IF the search function would provide every single lesson from the collection I’m looking for I wouldnt need a collection filter =p. As it is , it doesnt work well. Am I doing something wrong??
@steve, By provider doesn’t help me at all. I’m the provider. and I’m not listed as an option in the filters… only the shared providers in the Korean ( or whatever language you’re studying) … I just need an easy way to sort through the collections that I’ve imported on the lesson page. and currently the easiest fastest way is to just not use the Lesson page and use the My import page to access the lessons. However I do wish to be able to properly use the lesson page in the near future with a collection filter or by searching the collection name ( which doesn’t properly work).
@Alex: I’ve selected Tutor=English only. Skyblueteapot is not on the list. Same if I add a selection for native language=English. It seems that I doesn’t appear for German as well. I’ve checked this from my daughter’s and a test account. In my settings I’m a tutor for German, but I’ve disabled writing corrections. Could this cause the problem?
If I’m looking for an English tutor, number 1 on the list is Evgueny, a Russian tutor. This is strange.
“Tutors Tab:
We have also added a Tutors tab in the Lessons subnavigation bar which lets you instantly filter all tutors in the currently active language. You can now also request a conversation or submit writing directly from the list, making it even more convenient to submit writings or sign up for conversations with tutors.”
Could this please be fixed???
Having corrected a submitted writing within record time 42 minutes :), I then received a conversation request. However the request is for Wednesday, May 20, 2009, 14:00. This is obviously wrong and I am unsure as to the real date and time requested. As the accompanying note suggests Tuesdays and Wednesdays, I have now posted conversations on both those days at that time next week.
But it’s really a shot in the dark perhaps it’s weeks later. Perhaps it’s meant to be for Tuesday, 20 September 2011, 14:00.
Perhaps also suggestions in figuring out what such dates might mean would be very helpful!
This may actually be a neat function, as I am very willing to accommodate requests for conversations at the times people request. Saves me posting conversation slots which block my time for conversations elsewhere.
Hape, is that you? Are you back? You really do love languages, and if it’s you, I’m glad you are back!!! Thoughtful people who really care about languages and their impact are real treasures.
We’re looking into the issue related to certain users not appearing on the Tutors page.
Evgueny is actually an English tutor as well as a Russian tutor – looking at the Rankings page, he’s already hosted 57 English conversations. If you’re looking for native English speaking tutors, I recommend using the “Native Language” filter on the right hand side.
Why is Evgueny the first tutor on the list? That is what is strange. Do you show the number of conversations in total or the number of conversations in the language I’ve choosen?
It seems that I’m not on the list or can other people find me as a German tutor?
@Maria__ - In order for the email to show a date from 2009 that user must have submitted it that way. Perhaps he wants to go back in time…
Regarding conversation requests, when you get a request for a conversation should respond to it directly on your Lessons or Speak page where all conversation requests are listed. You will be able to accept it/reject it or suggest an alternate time directly without having to add times to your calendar. Of course, this only applies to conversation requests for times in the future!
Whoops! I thought you had said that Hape was the one who requested that strange time but I realize now those paragraphs were unrelated. Sorry Hape! I’ve edited my post.
Perhaps it would be a good idea to provide the link to the Lessons or Speak page in the email, such that one can easily respond to conversation requests which seem to have strange dates.
I have of course sorted this particular problem out by directly contacting the person concerned and have been able to accommodate the requester’s wishes for a conversation next week.
Nonetheless, as it stands it is very difficult to make head or tail of it.
Suggested topic: Hi Maria, how are you? Thank you for…etc.
If you feel that the date above has been inserted by the user requesting the conversation and has not been generated by LingQ, may I suggest an improvement to the system? Users obviously don’t want to request conversations with dates that involve guesswork, and without a link to the Lessons or Speak page the receiver of such a request is left in the dark.
@Maria - I’m not sure what you mean about dates involving guesswork. The user should be able to choose a date in the future. It is up to you to respond on the Speak page. Yes, we should add a link to that page with some instructions. We will do so.
Obviously by guesswork I mean that users wishing to request a conversation for next week do not want to inadvertently provide dates such as: May 20, 2009
Based upon what transpired yesterday, it might also be an idea to allow people who submit texts for correction to modify their post if the reviewer hadn’t looked at it yet. But perhaps this is too complicated for LingQ in which case it is not worth considering.
Thanks for the suggestion, Maria. This isn’t possible with our current setup. However, perhaps we can consider something like this as an improvement in the future.
