LingQ, Please Stop Messing Up Every Chinese Sentence – It Shouldn’t Be This Hard to Start a Lesson

Honestly, after years of using LingQ for Chinese, I’m shocked this still hasn’t been fixed. Every time I import a lesson, the word segmentation is a complete mess. I’m not talking about the occasional mistake — I mean almost every sentence has issues. Words that should be together are broken up, random characters are joined into nonsense words, and you’re left having to manually fix everything before you can even begin studying.

This isn’t a minor annoyance. In Chinese, meaning depends on proper word grouping — you can’t just treat characters like individual words. So instead of learning, I waste time trying to decode what LingQ thought the sentence was supposed to be. And to make it worse, the interface for fixing these mistakes is painfully slow and frustrating to use.

Even trying to fix things before importing doesn’t work. I’ve tried copying the text into another app that segments Chinese properly, then re-importing it into LingQ. But LingQ just reprocesses everything and messes it up again. So there’s no real workaround — you’re stuck fixing things inside LingQ, sentence by sentence.

It’s exhausting. This is not what a learning tool should feel like.
