I’ve been using LingQ almost everyday in China for the past 2 years with no problems. But from about 3 or 4 weeks ago I noticed the website did not connect to the data base so I could not use the link system or see new lessons. Then I realised that I had to use a vpn inorder to use this website. I’m not sure why this has happened. The website works. It’s just doesn’t connect to the database without the vpn. Is this some thing that everyone is aware of? Just a massive pain because some days I cannot get the vpn to work.
some political reason,so, you need to prepare at least two or more vpn,in case anyone of them being blocked by the wall. Just calm down ,we chinese already got used to it
This site have quite complicated structure and with some part of the system not accessible through great firewall you get such problems. I doubt anyone can fix this for you, so yes, VPN. Or use application, it is a bit less buggy, especially for iOS. I personally find app to be more convenient than web-site and hope to see developers finally making it fully functional.
Another user mentioned this to us on Twitter last week. Not sure why that would be but could be the integrated news items for import in our Lesson Feed. Sorry about that. There isn’t much we can do. Does the mobile app still work properly? It also needs to communicate with the server to sync up data and download new content/import content.
its the same in the app, I love the app. I use the app more than the Website. For the past 2 years it’s been fine no problem. this just started about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I thought maybe lingq changed the servers that the databases are on or something. Ok I guess I’ll just have to keep using the vpn. Thanks for the reply
Thanks for letting us know. We were considering investing in adding our Android app to the Chinese Android stores but now it looks like that would be a mistake unless we can get it working again although we have no idea how this might be done. I guess we could stop showing import content to users in China.
I was the user the pointed it out.
I am able to listen to my playlist and it syncs fine.
I’m not able to open any stories (without vpn)
I’m almost certain it’s because the “news import” feature, which somehow was able to import news stories in Chinese from VOA, NYTIMES, BBC, and other news sources blocked in China.
I wonder if we removed News articles from showing in China if this can be reversed. Any idea?
possibly? I assume you’d have to apply or contact the the authorities to get removed from the naughty list…
