LingQのおかげで先週10冊目の小説を読み終えた。

Finished my 10th light novel in Japanese this year, on LingQ.

I made the switch to reading long-form content (podcast transcripts and light novels) on LingQ. Progress has been steady and I’m happy with the results.

I spend a bit of time browsing different light novels and going over their summaries before importing. This helps me decide whether or not the novel is too difficult. Ideally, I aim for anything below 15% unknown words. Also, I stay away from genres that are out of my ‘realm’. For example, science, politics, etc.

Taking the plunge at first was a bit intimidating but over time, reading has become easier and easier. Still, I have a long way to go (especially if I want to read a ‘real’ paper-back novel).

Next year, I’ll aim for 15 light novels.

For context, I started learning Japanese in the beginning of 2019. Everything’s been on my own. Lived in Japan prior, got stuck in the Tokyo English speaking bubble.

Congratulations, Eric. Btw, where do you buy the novels?

Awesome! Out of curiosity, do you mean 15% for the entire novel, or 15% per lesson?

15% for the entire novel.

Thanks.

Under the category tab in the Japanese sheet, search for light novels.

Congratulation! "I spend a bit of time browsing different light novels and going over their summaries before importing. " this helps many who are at slightly before intermediate level.
