For Japanese, specifically, the spelling questions are mostly annoying since there are usually multiple correct answers but only one of them is accepted as correct. Even if you know all the correct spellings, you just have to guess/remember which one LingQ is looking for.
I looked though the options, and can’t seem to find a way to turn these types of questions off. Am I missing it?

Go to Settings > Review, and you can choose which activities to enable/disable.
So, I’ve done that. There doesn’t seem to be an option for the spelling questions. Unless it’s very strangely named (and, I tried the mysterious options anyhow and didn’t see any difference).

No, it’s “enter the word” questions. For most languages, this is no problems. For Japanese, there are multiple fully correct answers, but only one of them is accepted as correct and there is no way to know which form the quiz wants until you’ve memorized the failures.
@olvenskol Yes, that is actually the dictation. If you disable it in review, that will do the job.

By the way, is there a place to report errors? Especially language errors. I’ve had a few understandable ones, such as the tokenizer getting an off-by-one error with some hilarious results (like “sensei” meaning “subject marker” and “school” meaning “object marker”. But this morning the TTS came up with an entirely different word than was shown. It saw “boku”, showed it with the correct pronunciation, but actually said “watashi” when saying the sentence. A different word entirely, one with a similar meaning, but still, very different. It’s like writing out “woods” and then pronouncing it “forest”.
This first bug you’re describing is happening a lot with japanese : the AI suggested definition gets shifted backward by one word and ends up giving a meaning that doesn’t correspond to what you’ve clicked on but to the word before to it.
It also does the same thing when you generate text within the memo window
As for word readings, unless that specific word can only be interpreted one way it’s nearly always incorrect (at least when written in the vocabulary window, maybe TTS works better)
