I am very interested in learning spanish and I can speak a little. how long can I speak a better spanish if I spend one hour a day? I know spanish is very similar with french. can anybody help me with spanish ?can you tell me when and how long have you been studying spanish? thank you in advance.
If you have prior knowledge of French or, for that matter, English then I don’t think Spanish will pose too much of a problem for you. The only real area of complexity in Spanish that I’ve found are in the verbs. Once you crack the code of Romance verbs, you’ll probably find the rest of the language is relatively problem-free.
I’ve been learning Spanish with LingQ since August. I don’t find Spanish to be all that difficult to learn, although I must say my knowledge of French helps a lot. Spanish is a more logical and consistent language than English, and the pronunciation and spelling are easier than French.
The best way to learn Spanish is of course with LingQ. However, studying a language from scratch using LingQ, while possible, is not easy. I’d suggest that you first study it using some other beginners courses/books for a short time. You don’t have to study very hard. All you need is just spend enough time to get an idea of what the language is like; for example, that there are two forms for “you”, the polite and informal forms. Basic things like that. Once you feel comfortable enough with the language, you can start the “real” studies with LingQ. Read the lessons, make lots and lots of LingQs; download the MP3 files, listen to them again and again.
It’s difficult to say how long it would take you to become fluent in Spanish, because I am not there yet myself. Also it depends on how diligent you are. As for myself, after studyiing the language for only a few months, I can already visit news sites in Spanish and have good comprehension of many news articles. So I can assure you that LingQ’s input based approach does really work.
I´m agreed with both “Chris” and “Cantotango”. Your Knowledge with other romance languages would help you with your spanish because of the similarity on root words. As well as in French you´ll find some complexity specifically in the conjugation of verbs. Furthermore, The time that take you to learn spanish is gonna depend in the time you dedicate it.
Personally, I think the practice is the key!. Good luck with that.

Cantotango, your answer have enlightened a lot of questions that I have and I was kind of afraid to ask. What level of knowledge one person should know to make good use of Lingq. I am starting to study Spanish next week and I was afraid of getting lose without knowing the first steps.
Thank you for this post, really helped me, because I will be learning it from the scratch, I have a book here Spanish from the scratch to Brazilians, I will study the first lessons, in order to get familiar with basic verbs, personal pronouns, and colours, numbers and simple words like that, and then, Lingq will be excellent to continue from that.
I’ve been learning Spanish from scratch using LingQ for about 5 months. I haven’t taken any classes, read any books (except for the grammar book I purchased after starting) nor done any grammar exercises, but I’m enjoying it. I’m not fluent yet (not even close), but I honestly don’t think you need to do anything else but just dive in, especially given that your native language is Portuguese. However, given that everyone has different goals and priorities, if you’re in a rush to make correctly structured sentences, it might be worthwhile learning some of those things you mentioned.
I am self taught and have been speaking spanish fluently for 11 years now. When I started I noticed that if you spent more time on pronunciation versus vocabulary it seemed to have a better response when talking to native speakers. So a few words spoken good is better than a million words spoken bad…
I would agree with all of you that if you know French, Italian, Portugues or any other romance language, it would be easier to learn spanish. I just added a couple of articles in spanish for you to review and enjoy. The first one “Aguas frescas” talks about all the natural drinks we have in México and the second “Tequila”, well… you probably have an idea. Please enjoy them and let me know if you need any additional help. Spanish is a very romantic language and easy to learn.

Miss Take, anytime you are in México or Los Angeles, let me know.
Merci.
Merci Miss Take.

Exemplo acanciones. Yo tambien queiro aprender Espanol hablar i escribir. Y para mi mas fasil como haora, discutar:)))
Sy en vacaciones en central America y es aqui que aprendo el espagnol en parlando con le gente. But speaking english is much easier !!
